Joe Panik (concussion) did some sprints on the field on Sunday.

It's a positive sign as he works his way back from post-concussion symptoms. Panik should slowly ramp up his activities this week as tolerated, but the Giants will obviously be cautious with him.

Phillies recalled RHP Ben Lively from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Lively will start Sunday against the Giants, pushing Mark Leiter back to the bullpen. He's posted a 3.80 ERA over seven starts with the big club this season, although he's struck out only 17 across 42 2/3 frames.

Hunter Pence is not in the Giants' lineup Sunday.

Pence has had a nice August, but he'll get some rest in this one. Carlos Moncrief is in right field.

Jett Bandy (rib) did some throwing Sunday and will attempt to resume hitting later this week.

Working his way back from a fractured rib, Bandy should return sometime next month. He'll only be the third catcher, though.

Matt Kemp is not in the Braves' lineup Sunday.

It's a scheduled day off. Matt Adams will cover left field.

Robert Murray of FanRagSports.com was told by a Blue Jays source that the club is "open" to a contract extension for Marco Estrada.

A new deal might not happen until the offseason, but it sounds like Estrada remaining in Toronto is a pretty decent possibility. The righty was claimed on revocable waivers by the Yankees, according to Murray, but the move was made to block another team from getting him and that deadline has passed, so Estrada is staying put. It's been an up-and-down season for the 34-year-old, as he holds a 5.09 ERA but has also struck out over a batter per inning.

Brian McCann (knee) is "almost a certainty" to be activated from the disabled list Thursday, according to Astros manager A.J. Hinch.

It's the first day the catcher is eligible to be activated. Evan Gattis (concussion) looks to be in line for a return by the end of the week, as well, so the Astros should have their top two catchers back in the fold soon.
Aug 20 - 12:59 PM

Lance McCullers (back) threw a three-inning, 45-pitch simulated game Sunday.

McCullers could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment this week. The Astros have yet to decide how many rehab starts the right-hander will require, but it will be at least a couple. McCullers has been on the shelf since late July with a back injury.
