Joc Pederson left Tuesday's game in the Cardinals after an outfield collision with Yasiel Puig.

Pederson took an elbow to the face from Puig before crashing head-first into the outfield wall. They were both running full-speed on a liner to right-center that Puig actually managed to catch. Pederson laid sprawled on the ground in obvious pain for a couple of minutes before eventually walking off alongside team trainers. Chris Taylor entered the game in Pederson's spot in the bottom of the 10th.

Yonder Alonso was removed from Tuesday's game against the Marlins after getting hit in the right wrist by a pitch.

Alonso stayed in to run, but Mark Canha replaced him at first base to open the top of the seventh inning. Alonso homered in the bottom of the second -- his 13th home run of the year -- before leaving after the HBP in the bottom of the sixth. He had just missed a handful of games with a knee sprain. The first baseman is probably headed for X-rays.

Lance McCullers lasted just five innings but got a win Tuesday, holding the Tigers scoreless in a 6-2 victory.

The only hit McCullers surrendered was a Miguel Cabrera infield single in the fourth inning. However, he walked a pair, hit a batter and struck out five to push his pitch count to 96 and Astros manager A.J. Hinch decided that was enough. He's gone seven frames just twice this season, but McCullers boasts a 2.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 65/17 K/BB ratio over 59 1/3 innings. He'll take on the Orioles at home on Sunday.
May 23 - 11:50 PM

Jordan Zimmermann allowed four runs -- two earned -- over six frames in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.

It was about as ugly as a quality start can get, with Zimmermann only striking out three, walking two and serving up a pair of home runs. Still, he'll take it given that he hadn't posted a quality start since his first start of the season back on April 8. He'll carry a 5.86 ERA into Chicago versus the White Sox on Sunday.

Jake Marisnick went 3-for-4 with an RBI single in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.

Marisnick struck out in his first plate appearance, but he picked up singles in his next three trips to the plate, with the final hit scoring the Astros' last run of the night. He now has two three-hit games in his last three starts and is hitting a surprising .296/.377/.537 on the season. It won't last, but Marisnick has probably earned a few more starts while his bat is hot given his plus glove.

Jesse Hahn has been diagnosed with a right triceps strain.

Hahn suffered the injury in the third inning of his start Tuesday night against the Marlins and departed the game with a trainer. He was charged with five earned runs, lifting his season ERA from 3.02 to 3.81. A trip to the 10-day disabled list is probably coming.

Juan Centeno hit a solo homer and reached base three times Tuesday versus the Tigers.

The 27-year-old journeyman was making his first start in the majors, as he came up when Brian McCann went on the 7-day concussion DL. Even after the nice night, Centeno might be lucky to get one more start before McCann returns.
May 23 - 11:34 PM

Yulieski Gurriel ripped a solo homer in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.

Gurriel hit a no-doubt, line-drive shot off of Jordan Zimmermann in the second inning that found the Crawford Boxes in a hurry. He also reached on a hit by pitch. It's been a struggle of late for the infielder, as Gurriel has seen his average drop from .293 to .269 over his last six games. Hopefully Tuesday's longball will get him going again.
