Omar Infante went 3-for-3 with a walk Wednesday in the Royals' 3-2 win over the Twins.

Infante was hot before the All-Star break, but he entered tonight in a 4-for-38 funk. For the year, he's batting a respectable .268. Incredibly, he leads the Royals in RBI with 49, even though he has just five homers and he served a DL stint earlier this year.

Brett Anderson limited the Cubs to two runs over seven innings but took a no-decision, as the Rockies needed 10 innings before cinching a 6-4 victory on Wednesday.

It was a weird outing for Anderson. He allowed 11 hits, but nine were singles, and he did not issue a single walk while striking out nine. He's now allowed one run over fewer in at least six innings over each of his last three starts. Over seven starts overall since returning from the disabled list, Anderson has a 3.12 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP, and a 27/13 K/BB ratio. He'll match up against the Cubs again next week, this time at home.
Jul 30 - 11:46 PM

Danny Duffy pitched around six walks to hold the Twins to one run in 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday.

That's largely because the Twins made three outs on the basepaths, with Eduardo Nunez getting picked off second by Salvador Perez, Sam Fuld getting picked off first by Duffy and Brian Dozier getting thrown out at home after trying to score on an errant throw. If the Twins hadn't done Duffy so many favors, there's a good chance they would have won tonight.
Jul 30 - 11:45 PM

Travis Wood went home with a no-decision after allowing four runs in six frames, as the Cubs lost in 10 innings to the Rockies on Wednesday.

Wood struck out a season-high 11 -- by far eclipsing his previous high of seven dating back to the start of May -- but was otherwise quite hittable. The lefty yielded eight hits and a pair of walks in the effort. Wood's mediocre season continues, as he now has a 5.10 ERA, a 1.54 WHIP, and a 108/55 K/BB ratio. He'll face the Rockies again next week, but in the pitcher-unfriendly confines of Coors Field.
Jul 30 - 11:43 PM

Trevor Plouffe went hitless in a third straight game Wednesday and is hitting .190 in 42 at-bats since the All-Star break.

Plouffe hasn't really been any good since April. The Twins aren't going to replace him during the season, but he'll be a candidate to be non-tendered this winter if he doesn't step it up.
Jul 30 - 11:43 PM

Adam Ottavino worked a scoreless 10th inning to pick up his first save of the season as the Rockies defeated the Cubs on Wednesday.

Regular closer LaTroy Hawkins was unavailable after pitching two innings in Tuesday night's 16-inning affair. Ottavino got two quick outs before allowing Starlin Castro to reach on a single, but was able to get Luis Valbuena to line out to end the contest. With the Rockies likely to hang on to Hawkins, per reports, save opportunities will continue to be few and far between for Ottavino, who has a 3.80 ERA on the season.

Giants released LHP Dan Runzler.

The organization let Runzler go from the Triple-A Fresno team to pursue a career in Japan. The 29-year-old had a 3.30 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings in the minors this season.
Jul 30 - 11:40 PM

Derek Holland threw 33 pitches over two scoreless innings in his first rehab start with Double-A Frisco on Wednesday.

Holland didn't allow a hit over his two innings, walking two while striking out four. His next start will come Monday with Triple-A Round Rock. Holland will continue to build up his endurance and his pitch count with an eye on a late August return.
