Denard Span is out of the Giants' lineup Wednesday.

Gregor Blanco will start in center field and bat leadoff versus Reds right-hander Dan Straily. This could be an injury situation for Span. Updates to come.

Enrique Hernandez (rib cage) has moved his minor league rehab assignment to Double-A Tulsa.

He was 3-for-8 with a double and two walks in two games with High-A Rancho Cucamonga. Hernandez has been on the disabled list since late June because of left rib cage inflammation. He should be ready for activation early next week.

Brett Anderson (back) is scheduled to go three innings in a rehab start Thursday with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

It will be his rehab debut, and he'll probably have another 3-4 minor league outings on top of it before the Dodgers consider him a realistic option for their starting rotation. Anderson has been out all season following March back surgery. He is aiming to make his first start for Los Angeles in mid-August.

Rival executives talking to the Phillies about Jeremy Hellickson tell ESPN's Jayson Stark that the club is asking for "one of your top five prospects."

The quality of that top five obviously varies greatly from organization to organization, but the point is the Phillies want something significant in return for the 29-year-old right-hander, who boasts a 3.65 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 107/28 K/BB ratio in 125 2/3 innings this season. Stark says Philadelphia would be content with getting a draft pick when Hellickson departs via free agency this winter. He is probably well on his way to a qualifying offer, and he is a Scott Boras client.

Pirates C prospect Reese McGuire tallied four hits Tuesday in a win for Double-A Altoona.

It was McGuire's fifth career four-hit game and his first in almost two years. He singled three times and added a triple for good measure. The former first-round pick now has four multi-hit games in his last 10 contests. McGuire hasn't hit for much power this year—he's homered just once—but he's been a great contact hitter with only 24 strikeouts in 257 at-bats. Overall he's hitting .265 with 36 RBI and a .350 slugging percentage.

Padres RHP prospect Carlos Pimentel allowed just one hit and two walks over six shutout frames Tuesday in a win for Triple-A El Paso.

It was Pimentel's longest start since June 15. The right-hander registered four strikeouts while throwing 53 of his 94 pitches for strikes. Despite his 10 victories, Pimentel has had a rocky season for the Chihuahuas, compiling a disappointing 5.68 ERA over 101 1/3 innings of work. Opponents have hit .297 against him with 77 strikeouts in 407 at-bats.

Drew VerHagen will undergo surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome on August 8.

That will obviously end his 2016 season, and it could cut into 2017. The right-hander had a 7.11 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in 19 innings this season out of the Detroit bullpen.

Yankees OF prospect Isiah Gilliam notched four hits Tuesday in a win for Rookie-level Pulaski.

He finished a triple shy of the cycle while providing three of the Yankees' seven runs. Gilliam got off to a slow start this year but has really turned it on over his last eight games. During that span he's hit .529 with two homers, 10 RBI and a pair of stolen bases. The hot streak has raised Gilliam's season average from .213 to .293. The 20-year-old joined the Yankees' organization last summer as a 20th-round draft pick.
