Charlie Morton punched out nine batters while allowing one run in 6 1/3 innings to earn a 9-5 victory over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

He held Arizona to three knocks, although he did issue four bases-on-balls and it took him 107 pitches to get 19 outs. Morton is sporting extra velocity this year and it has boosted his strikeout rate to levels he has never displayed before. He is now 10-5 with a 3.69 ERA through 18 starts. He has 119 strikeouts and 42 walks in 107 1/3 innings.

George Springer went 3-for-5 and scored a pair of runs in a win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

All three hits were singles. Springer has hit well since returning from a two week stint on the disabled list with a quad injury. He has a .307 batting average with 28 home runs, 86 runs scored and 70 RBI in 100 games played. He needs one more dinger to match his career high he set a year ago in 162 games.

Josh Reddick went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Diamondbacks.

He delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning, then walloped a two run blast in the eighth to put the game out of reach. The 20-year-old outfielder has gotten to play nearly every day this year and has delivered solid production. He has a .295 batting average with 12 home runs, 58 RBI, 65 runs and seven steals in 104 games.

Andrew Miller (knee) tossed a scoreless inning Wednesday in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Columbus.

Miller fanned two hitters while throwing 10 of his 12 pitches for strikes. The left-hander didn't show any signs of rust in his first and perhaps only rehab outing and could be back in the Indians' pen as soon as this weekend.

J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 and whacked a solo home run against his former team the Astros on Saturday.

He came up through the Astros farm system and played his first three seasons in Houston before becoming a star with the Tigers. He came to Arizona in a mid-July trade. He is batting .285/.374/.620 with 24 home runs and 59 RBI in 81 games.

Paul Goldschmidt belted a two-run home run during a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

He took reliever Luke Gregerson deep with a runner aboard as the Diamondbacks attempted to rally in the eighth inning. It was his only hit of the night. The superstar first baseman is batting .319/.432/.603 with 29 longballs. His 95 RBI rank third in the majors and his 92 runs scored rank second. He's even tallied 16 stolen bases for his adoring fantasy owners.

Taijuan Walker gave up five runs -- three earned -- in five innings and was charged with a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

He gave up a solo home run to Carlos Beltran in the second inning. He walked in one of the two runs he allowed in the third inning, then surrendered a pair of unearned runs in the fourth. All together he surrendered nine hits and two walks while fanning three batters in the loss. The former Mariners elite prospect falls to 6-7 with a 3.83 ERA in 20 starts in his first season as a Diamondback.

Aaron Slegers will be called up as the 26th man for Thursday's doubleheader against the Indians.

Slegers will start Game 2 of Thursday's day/night doubleheader, where he'll be opposed by Indians left-hander Ryan Merritt. Jose Berrios, who had been scheduled to pitch Game 2, will have his start moved back to Saturday. Slegers has been a standout in the minors this year, going 13-4 with a 3.18 ERA over 21 starts at Triple-A Rochester. Thursday will mark the right-hander's major league debut.
