Padres acquired LHPs Matt Strahm and Travis Wood and INF Esteury Ruiz from the Royals in exchange for RHPs Trevor Cahill and Brandon Maurer and LHP Ryan Buchter.

Strahm posted a disappointing 5.45 ERA before having season-ending knee surgery earlier this month, but the left-hander has loads of potential. The Padres figure to give him a shot at a rotation spot next season.

Royals acquired LHP Ryan Buchter from the Padres in the Trevor Cahill trade.

He has control issues, but Buchter boasts a 2.93 ERA with 125 strikeouts over 101 1/3 innings the last two seasons. He'll provide a boost to the Royals' left-handed relief corps.

Royals acquired RHP Brandon Maurer from the Padres in the Trevor Cahill trade.

Maurer will see his fantasy value drop big time, as he's losing his closer job and now headed for a setup role in Kansas City. While he's posted a 5.72 ERA this season, Maurer boasts a 38/8 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings.

Royals acquired RHPs Trevor Cahill and Brandon Maurer and LHP Ryan Buchter from the Padres in exchange for LHPs Matt Strahm and Travis Wood and INF Esteury Ruiz.

Robert Murray of FanRag Sports first reported the deal and it is now official. Cahill has experienced a big bounce-back season in 2017, posting a 3.69 ERA and 72/24 K/BB ratio over 61 innings. He'll give the Royals some more reliable innings out of the back-end of their rotation. Meanwhile, Maurer and Buchter will supplement Kansas City's relief corps.

The Braves could promote pitching prospect Lucas Sims soon to make his major league debut.

Aaron Blair will start Wednesday in place of the departed Jaime Garcia, but Blair isn't guaranteed anything beyond that outing and might be replaced by Sims soon. A former first-round pick, Sims has made big strides with his control this season, posting a 3.75 ERA and 124/33 K/BB ratio over 110 1/3 innings for Gwinnett.

Aaron Blair will start Wednesday in Arizona.

He's taking the rotation spot vacated by Jaime Garcia. Blair has had another disappointing season at Triple-A Gwinnett, holding a 4.86 ERA and 68/40 K/BB ratio over 87 innings. He's not guaranteed more than Wednesday's outing.

Matt Davidson wallopped a long solo home run in Monday's win over the Cubs.

Koji Uehara left a splitter up and over the plate in the eighth inning and Davidson pulverized it over the Wrigley Field bleachers and onto Waveland Avenue. The dinger was Davidson's 19th of the season. Davidson is sporting a lowly .284 on-base percentage and 39 percent(!) strikeout rate, but he's provided some power and that's all the White Sox could've hoped for given his underwhelming numbers in the minors the last few seasons.

Adam Engel singled and smacked a solo homer in Monday's win over the Cubs.

The longball came in the sixth inning off of Justin Grimm and landed a few rows into the bleachers in left-center field. It's the third home run of the season for Engel, who has been the White Sox' regular center fielder with Leury Garcia (finger) sidelined.
