Zack Cozart (quad) remains out of the Reds' starting lineup on Thursday night.

Cozart re-injured his left quad while running the bases on Tuesday, though he hasn't been placed back on the disabled list yet. Jose Peraza is at shortstop and batting seventh Thursday versus Marlins left-hander Chris O'Grady.

Albert Pujols went 0-for-4 at the plate Thursday in Cleveland, dropping his season line to .233/.280/.374.

Pujols went 0-for-15 at the dish in the series as the Indians swept the Angels. The future Hall of Famer's walk rate has been going in the wrong direction for years now and this season he hasn't produced much power to make up for it with a pedestrian 14 homers. The good news is he still remains a fixture in the No. 3 spot in the lineup behind Mike Trout, which means he's still on a 93-RBI pace even in a poor hitting campaign.

Yadier Molina will get the night off Thursday.

Carson Kelly is starting at catcher and batting seventh against Diamondbacks right-hander Zack Godley. It's a routine breather for Yadi.

Jedd Gyorko is out of the Cardinals' starting lineup on Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Gyorko had a tremendous first half, but he's batting just .159 with a .500 OPS since the All-Star break. Greg Garcia will start at third base and hit eighth Thursday versus Arizona right-hander Zack Godley.

Marlins prospect Trevor Richards threw seven shutout innings on Wednesday for Double-A Jacksonville.

This is a fun story. Richards went undrafted out of something called Drury University, and then pitched two years in the Frontier League before signing with the Marlins last July. All the right-hander has done since entering the system is post a 2.43 ERA and strike out 120 hitters while walking just 21. He relies on deception, and his plus change gives him a potential out pitch. He's already 24 so there isn't a high ceiling, but he has a chance to pitch in a rotation someday. That would be fun.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that Melky Cabrera is drawing "a little interest."

Cabrera is owed around $5 million in the final year of a three-year, $42 million deal and his outfield defense has always been poor, but the 32-year-old switch-hitter has slashed .293/.340/.446 with 27 home runs and 142 RBI in 246 games over the last two seasons. He would make sense as a bench bat for a variety of contending clubs.
Jul 27 - 2:46 PM

Rangers prospect Chris Seise hit his first professional homer on Wednesday for short-season Arizona League Rangers.

Seise also drew a walk. The Rangers took Seise with the 29th pick of this year's draft, and the early returns have been impressive. He's hitting .320/.380/.440, and he's picked up seven extra-base hits and stolen four bags in his 23 games in Arizona. There's a long way to go, but if you're looking for an upside play who is a borderline lock to stick at shortstop, Seise is worth targeting.
Jul 27 - 2:42 PM

Rangers prospect Ronald Guzman homered on Wednesday for Triple-A Round Rock.

The homer was his 12th of the season. While Guzman is much more advanced with the hit tool than his power, there is at least average power potential in his left-handed bat, so 15-plus homer season aren't out of the question. The Rangers are in contending purgatory, so it's tough to say when Guzman will get a chance to see the field. It may not happen in 2017, but he should be the everyday player at first before the end of next year.
