Houston is "very, very busy" taking calls on Jarred Cosart, reports FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
The 24-year-old is 9-7 with a 4.41 ERA and will exit this season with just 1.070 years service time, leaving him under club control for years. The Astros will need to be presented with an offer they can't refuse, but Jeff Luhnow would presumably be happy to take just that.
Twins recalled 1B Kennys Vargas from Double-A New Britain.
Vargas, 23, was batting .281/.360/.472 with 17 home runs and 63 RBI in 97 games this season at the Double-A level. But he is doubtful to hold fantasy value.
Indians catching prospect Francisco Mejia went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk for short season-A Mahoning Valley on Wedenesday.
The 18-year old Mejia is hitting .272/.339/.381 in a league where the average age is 21, which is a testament to his talent. He has nine errors, but has thrown out 33 percent of would-be base stealers. He will likely finish the season with Mahoning Valley, and open 2015 with Low-A Lake County. He has the potential to hit .300 with 20-plus home runs, but is unlikely to reach the major leagues until late-2017.
The Astros are telling other teams that Chad Qualls isn't available, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports.
If you're confused as to why Houston, miles outside of contention, is making a 35-year-old closer unavailable, we're with you. Qualls would have been a nice rental for a playoff hopeful. He is 1-2 with a 3.19 ERA and 11 saves in 15 chances, and is set to make a reasonable $3 million next year.
Athletics acquired OF Sam Fuld from the Twins for LHP Tommy Milone.
Fuld isn't much of a hitter, but he can play all around the outfield and that's useful to Oakland in the wake of Thursday's trade that sent Yoenis Cespedes to the Red Sox for Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes. Fuld is not fantasy-relevant.
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Astros have taken Dallas Keuchel off the trade market.
Keuchel threw his fourth complete game of the season on Wednesday against the A's, allowing only four hits and one run over nine innings. The 26-year-old left-hander owns an impressive 2.97 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 104/33 K/BB ratio through 136 1/3 total frames this season. There was no good reason for Houston to trade him.
Twins acquired LHP Tommy Milone from the Athletics for OF Sam Fuld; assigned him to Triple-A Rochester.
Milone was pushed even further down the A's rotation depth chart with Thursday's Jon Lester trade. He'll get new life in Minnesota, which is almost as pitcher-friendly as Oakland. The 27-year-old left-hander had a solid 3.55 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 61/26 K/BB ratio in 96 1/3 innings this season with the Athletics. He will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. It's a decent get for the Twins.
Yankees prospect catcher went 3-for-4 with a double and two home runs for Double-A Trenton on Wednesday.
O'Brien has 33 home runs for the season, and has hit .245/.296/.555 over 72 games with Double-A Trenton. His power is very much real, but he struggles with off-speed pitches and rarely walks. His batting average decreased by nearly 80 points with the move from High-A to Double-A, and it is unlikely that he will have any success in the major leagues without a substantial improvement.
