New Dolphins MLB Rey Maualuga needs to lose weight before he practices with the team.

Maualuga is in the 260s, and the Dolphins want him to lose around 10 pounds. He has two-plus weeks to get ready for Week 1. The 30-year-old is expected to be the Dolphins' starting middle linebacker this season.

Chester Rogers has been sidelined since August 16 with a hamstring injury.

He pulled up lame while running a route in individual drills at practice last week. Rogers was viewed as the favorite for No. 3 duties early in camp, but it's hard to win that job when not on the field. Phillip Dorsett has been handling that role in the meantime. Kamar Aiken has had a quiet summer.

Jets released WR Marquess Wilson.

TE Brandon Barnes was signed to take his roster spot. Wilson was the most veteran receiver on the Jets' roster but always faced long odds to make the team.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Brock Osweiler is not expected to play in the Browns' third preseason game.

Schefter's colleague at ESPN, Field Yates wonders if the Browns are holding Osweiler out in hopes to trade him. It makes sense. Coach Hue Jackson named rookie DeShone Kizer the starter earlier Wednesday, and Cleveland has Cody Kessler as a capable No. 2. Osweiler has been brutal this preseason, completing 12-of-22 passes (54.5 percent) for 67 yards (3.05 YPA) and a 0:1 TD:INT ratio with massive accuracy issues. It'll be tough to find someone to take on his $16 million salary. The Browns may be comfortable outright cutting Osweiler.

The Florida Times Union's Ryan O'Halloran "guesses" the Jaguars are shopping Allen Hurns on the trade block.

Hurns has yet to play this preseason despite being relatively healthy. He missed a bunch of action last season due to a severe hamstring strain. GM Dave Caldwell just signed Hurns to a "five-year, $40.6 million" deal last June, but he appears to already be falling out of favor with guys like Marqise Lee playing well last season and rookie Dede Westbrook impressing this summer. Hurns likely wouldn't fetch much in the trade department coming off a really down 2016.

Danny Woodhead has been sidelined at practice this week with a hamstring injury.

Beat writer Jeff Zrebiec wonders whether we'll see Woodhead the remainder of the preseason and at least questions his availability for Week 1. Woodhead has been very quiet through two weeks of the preseason, playing just seven snaps last week, rushing once for two yards and failing to catch either of his two targets from an erratic Ryan Mallett. Woodhead's stock should be more than fine as long as he's healthy and once Joe Flacco (back) gets back under center.

Giants waived OT Michael Bowie.

Bowie was charged with domestic violence this past weekend and has predictably been cut. GM Jerry Reese wouldn't rule out a return down the line.

Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski expects rookie Donnel Pumphrey to be inactive at the start of the season should he even make the 53-man roster.

Pumphrey was drawing all the praise early in training camp, but the pint-sized one-dimensional pass catcher has predictably struggled mightily in preseason games. A subpar athlete, relatively speaking, Pumphrey has caught seven passes for 32 yards and rushed seven times for two yards. Kempski wonders if the Eagles may even try to stash Pumphrey on I.R. as a rookie.
