Reds promoted top pitching prospect Robert Stephenson to Triple-A Louisville.

The 22-year-old right-hander compiled a 3.68 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 89/43 K/BB ratio over 78 1/3 innings at Double-A Pensacola, and has been especially strong over his last ten starts with a 2.36 ERA and .166 batting average against. It wouldn't be surprising to see him debut with the Reds later in the season.

Despite the return of Chris Taylor, Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon clarified Thursday that Brad Miller will remain the team's starting shortstop.

The 25-year-old has struggled at the dish this season, slashing .238/.319/.403 with seven homers and 22 RBI in his 74 games. It sounds like it's a vote of confidence from the skipper, but if Taylor continues to mash the baseball he'll find his way into more playing time soon enough.

Athletics head trainer Nick Paparesta said Thursday that the cause of Sonny Gray's illness proved to be salmonella.

The right-hander missed his scheduled start on Tuesday and had to be hospitalized due to the severity of the illness. He's expected to make a full recovery and should be ready to rejoin the A's rotation at some point next week.
Jul 2 - 7:48 PM

Phil Hughes has had his next start pushed back until Monday to allow Ervin Santana to return to the rotation on July 5.

Hughes had been scheduled to go on Sunday, but instead will work in Monday's series opener against the Orioles. While it takes a two-start week away from the veteran right-hander this week, he'll make up that double against the hard-hitting O's and Tigers next week.
Jul 2 - 7:46 PM

Hisashi Iwakuma (lat) threw a successful bullpen session on Thursday without any issues.

It's unclear if he's going to need one final minor league rehab start, or be cleared to rejoin the Mariners rotation immediately. M's manager Lloyd McClendon said he'll elaborate on the team's rotation plan on Friday.
Jul 2 - 7:05 PM

D.J. LeMahieu is not in the Rockies starting lineup on Thursday.

It's the second straight week that Walt Weiss has opted to rest his second baseman on Thursday. Daniel Descalso will get the start in his place and bat seventh against Jeremy Hellickson and the Diamondbacks.

Rockies recalled OF Drew Stubbs from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Stubbs was demoted to Triple-A on May 20 after struggling to an awful .118/.182/.255 slash line in his first 56 plate appearances. He appears to have righted the ship somewhat at Triple-A, hitting .263/.376/.380 tough his power was noticeably absent with just two homers and 20 RBI in 165 plate appearances.
Jul 2 - 7:00 PM

Rockies optioned INF Rafael Ynoa to Triple-A Albuquerque.

The 27-year-old utility man was hitting just .225/.250/.270 in 89 at-bats with the big league club. He'll continue to function as organizational depth for the Rockies at Triple-A.
