Nelson Cruz hit a solo home run in a 1-for-4 effort as the Mariners dropped Tuesday's game to the Diamondbacks.

The Mariners had fallen behind 6-1 after the top of the sixth when Cruz got one back with a solo shot off of Zack Godley in the bottom half. It's his fifth home run in his last eight games, giving him 26 on the season with 61 RBI and a .309/.375/.559 batting line.

Zack Godley won again in his second major league start, allowing three runs in six innings on Tuesday against the Mariners.

Godley allowed a pair of solo home runs to Mike Zunino and Nelson Cruz to account for most of the damage. He gave up seven hits and three walks overall while striking out four. The 25-year-old will try to make it three in a row in a road start against the Nationals next.

Hisashi Iwakuma served up six runs to the Diamondbacks in 5 2/3 innings, leaving with a loss on Tuesday.

Iwakuma was on a roll entering Tuesday's outing, with three quality outings in a row. But the D'Backs weren't impressed, pounding out 10 hits against the right-hander. He also walked one and struck out five as he watched his ERA balloon to 5.10. Iwakuma will try to right his ship when he takes the mound against the Twins in Minnesota.

Chris Young had a monster game Tuesday, finishing 3-for-6 with a grand slam, five RBI and four runs scored against the Rangers.

Young came up with the bases loaded in the third inning and took Wandy Rodriguez deep for his 12th homer of the year. The grand slam was his second of the season. Young also had an RBI double in the sixth, his second double of the game. The 31-year-old is hitting .263/.315/.491 overall.

Didi Gregorius went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in a lopsided win over the Rangers on Tuesday.

Gregorius had a three-run triple in the Yankees' 11-run second inning. He added three more singles on the night, raising his batting average nine points with one huge game. Even with nights like Tuesday -- and Monday, when he went 3-for-4 with four RBI -- Gregorius is a defense-first shortstop who is hitting .257/.307/.354 on the year.

Francisco Rodriguez earned his 23rd save with a scoreless ninth inning in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Giants.

Rodriguez allowed a harmless two-out single to Brandon Belt before getting Brandon Crawford to strike out to end the game. The right-hander is perfect in 23 save chances with a 1.50 ERA and a 40/9 K/BB ratio in 36 innings. Rodriguez is one of many Brewers who could be moved to a new location by the trade deadline on Friday.

Brendan Ryan had two RBI doubles -- both coming in the second inning -- and finished 2-for-6 with three RBI in a win over the Rangers on Tuesday.

The Yankees batted around in an 11-run second inning, with Ryan providing a two-run double early before capping the scoring with another RBI double later in the inning. The offensive performance was unusual for Ryan, who had just eight RBI in 49 games all of last season. Ryan is hitting a deceptive .276/.323/.517 through 11 games this year.
Jul 29 - 1:00 AM

Wily Peralta allowed two runs in six innings, earning the win on Tuesday against the Giants.

Peralta shut the Giants out through six innings, but allowed the first two hitters he faced in the seventh inning to reach base on a walk and a double. Reliever Will Smith came in and allowed both inherited runners to score on out-producing balls in play. Peralta, overall, gave up five hits and two walks while striking out three. He has a solid 3.90 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP and a 38/16 K/BB ratio in 60 innings. He'll host the Cubs in his next start.
