Sean Doolittle threw a scoreless sixth inning in the A's loss to the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.

It was his first appearance since being activated from the disabled list on Tuesday evening. Doolittle didn't top 90 mph, but he looked pretty sharp in striking out two of the four batters he faced. The left-hander should move into the A's closer role after one or two more low-leverage outings. Doolittle missed the first eight weeks of the 2015 regular season with a slight tear in his left rotator cuff.

Juan Uribe is in the Braves' lineup against the Dodgers Wednesday, batting fifth and playing third base.

Uribe didn't have to travel far after Wednesday's trade, simply walking to the Braves' locker room as the Dodgers host Uribe's new club. With third baseman Chris Johnson returning from the disabled list on Wednesday afternoon, Uribe will likely fill a part-time role with the Braves moving forward.

Sammy Solis (shoulder) threw off flat ground Wednesday.

Solis hit the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 18 with left shoulder inflammation. Given that he's still not throwing off a mound, it appears unlikely he'll be back when his 15 days are up.

Andre Ethier is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Braves.

With lefty Alex Wood on the hill for the Braves, it appears manager Don Mattingly is simply playing the matchups. Chris Heisey started in right field for the Dodgers.

Red Sox transferred RHP Anthony Varvaro from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Varvaro underwent season-ending elbow surgery on Tuesday. The right-hander posted an impressive 2.63 ERA, 1.079 WHIP, and 50/13 K/BB ratio in 54 2/3 innings last year for the Braves, but he had a mess of a 2015 campaign.

Red Sox acquired OF Carlos Peguero from the Rangers for cash considerations.

Peguero was designated for assignment by Texas one week ago after batting .186/.310/.414 in 84 plate appearances. The 28-year-old outfielder is a .194/.262/.387 career hitter at the major league level.
May 27 - 5:49 PM

Johnny Giavotella is not in the Angels' lineup Wednesday.

Giavotella has cooled off considerably after a hot first month and will take a seat against Padres right-hander Andrew Cashner. Grant Green is at second base.
May 27 - 5:20 PM

Scott Kazmir left his start Wednesday against the Tigers after experiencing left shoulder tightness.

He worked three hitless innings before giving way to reliever Dan Otero. Kazmir had struggled in his last handful of starts, so it's safe to wonder whether this shoulder issue has been a lingering thing. The 31-year-old southpaw has a long, well-chronicled history of arm injuries. He was supposed to be trade bait this season for the struggling Athletics.
