Ike Davis - 1B - Mets

A source tells the New York Daily News that the Mets could demote Ike Davis after this weekend's series against the Braves.

The Mets have been considering a demotion for Davis since last week, but want to make sure they come to the best decision from a development standpoint. GM Sandy Alderson is also out of town until Monday, which could be part of the reason why a decision hasn't been made. Davis is batting just .147 with a .482 OPS through his first 42 games. He has just one hit in his last 38 plate appearances.

Cubs prospect Albert Almora went 3-for-4 with a double in his first game Wednesday with Low-A Kane County.

The No. 6 overall pick in last year's draft, Almora has been sidelined all season while recovering from left hand surgery. The talented 19-year-old outfielder batted .321/.331/.464 between two levels of the minors in 2012.
May 23 - 2:17 PM

Josh Phegley is batting .333/.400/.651 with 10 home runs and 28 RBI through 34 games at Triple-A Charlotte.

Phegley is having a breakout year offensively and currently leads the International League with a .651 slugging-percentage. The White Sox would ideally wait until mid-June to promote Phegley to avoid Super Two status, but they might not be able to resist calling him up for much longer with Tyler Flowers and Hector Gimenez struggling.

Rangers signed INF Mark Teahen to a minor league contract.

Teahen was granted his release from the Diamondbacks on Monday and became a free agent. The veteran infielder hit .211/.318/.254 in 22 games at Triple-A Reno and will continue to serve as organizational depth.
May 23 - 1:32 PM

Ranges released RHP Derek Lowe.

Lowe cleared waivers and was granted his unconditional release. The 39-year-old right-hander posted a 9.00 ERA in 13 innings with the Rangers and will look to continue his career elsewhere rather than accept an assignment to Triple-A Round Rock.

An MRI taken Wednesday on Adam Eaton's left elbow showed no structural damage, but he won't throw a baseball for 2-3 weeks.

Eaton suffered a sprained UCL in March and has been dealing with renewed soreness. The outfielder will spend the next 2-3 weeks doing strength and conditioning work before attempting to resume a throwing program. He can be ruled out until at least late June. It's a disappointing setback for one of 2013's biggest fantasy darlings.
May 23 - 1:19 PM

David Ross (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Portland.

Ross has been out since May 11 with concussion-related symptoms. Assuming he avoids a setback in Portland, he will rejoin the Red Sox on Friday against the Indians.
May 23 - 1:09 PM

Blue Jays prospect Sean Nolin is expected to start Friday against the Orioles.

A sixth-round pick in 2010, Nolin boasts a 1.17 ERA and has fanned a batter per inning this year at Double-A New Hampshire. Chad Jenkins had also been a candidate to start but will likely be optioned to clear some roster room. Nolin has just six starts above the High-A level and is not a recommended streaming option in fantasy leagues.
