Twins prospect Stephen Gonsalvez has been a strikeout machine this year at Low-A Cedar Rapids.
Gonsalves has amassed 30 strikeouts to just two walks this season. His 0.90 ERA and .159 opponent batting average are equally remarkable. Simply put, Gonsalves is ready to move to the next level. Expect the 20-year-old right-hander to receive his promotion sooner rather than later.
Indians prospect Cody Anderson has looked sharp for Double-A Akron this season.
Anderson hasn't allowed more than one run in any of his four starts this year. He carries a 1.13 ERA across 24 innings of work. Anderson had a disastrous season in 2014 (4-11, 5.44 ERA in 25 starts for Akron) but seems to have turned the corner. Opponents are hitting .235 against Anderson, down from .285 a year ago.
Red Sox prospect Michael Kopech hasn't allowed a run in his last two starts for Low-A Greenville.
He's fanned seven batters over than span without allowing a walk. Kopech suffered an ugly debut (3 2/3 IP, 3 ER against Lexington) but has been lights out ever since. The 18-year-old bypassed a chance to play at the University of Arizona so he could join the Red Sox organization. He was the 33rd overall pick in last year's draft.
Alex Colome (illness) will rejoin the Rays' rotation this weekend in Baltimore.
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times suggests that Friday would be the most likely day. Colome got a late start to spring training due to a visa issue and then went down with pneumonia, but he's healthy now and spun six innings of one-run ball Sunday at Triple-A Durham. The young right-hander is worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.
Austin Jackson is not in the Mariners' lineup Monday.
It appears to just be a day of rest. Logan Morrison is also on the bench for the M's, as Justin Ruggiano is in center field and Willie Bloomquist is at first base.
Ryan Braun is out of the Brewers' lineup again Monday with an undisclosed injury.
Braun requested the day off Sunday due to a physical issue not related to his surgically-repaired right thumb and has now missed two straight starts. He's dealt with a rib cage ailment this month but it's unclear at the moment if that's what's bothering him again. The Brewers should provide more on his status later Monday. Gerardo Parra is in right field again in Braun's place.
Indians prospect Dace Kime collected 12 strikeouts Sunday in a win for Low-A Lake County.
It was his first win of the season. Kime posted a sluggish 5.22 ERA in 28 starts for Lake County last season. This year he's trimmed that to 1.85. Much of Kime's success can be attributed to throwing strikes. In four starts, he's only walked three batters. Kime was a third-round pick out of Louisville in 2013.
Bobby Parnell (elbow) is planning to resume throwing off flat ground on Thursday.
Parnell was shut down for a week with some renewed discomfort in his surgically-repaired right elbow, but it doesn't sound like it was a significant setback. He's on track to debut at some point in mid-to-late May and could quickly be pitching in high-leverage situations for the Mets.
