Erik Bedard allowed two runs in six innings and took a no-decision as the Astros beat the Pirates on Saturday.

The start was Bedard's longest outing of the year, and it was the second-straight appearance in which he's allowed just two runs. Still, there's very little to like about Bedard's prospects for the rest of the season. His next start will come Friday against the A's.

Rays recalled LHP Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham.

It's believed Beliveau will be up solely for Sunday, as it's already been confirmed that Jake Odorizzi will be promoted to start in place of David Price on Monday. Beliveau, a lefty, has an underwhelming 4.35 ERA in 10 appearances this season with Durham.

Kris Medlen allowed just one (unearned) run in seven innings as the Braves beat the Dodgers 3-1 on Saturday.

Medlen was superb, yielding just two hits and three walks while striking out five batters. It was a nice bounceback effort for the talented right-hander, who struggled on Sunday against the Giants. He will carry an improving 3.02 ERA and 1.32 WHIP into his next start against the light-hitting Mets.

Craig Kimbrel picked up an easy save Saturday as the Braves defeated the Dodgers at Turner Field.

Kimbrel used only 10 pitches in all and yet still struck out two of the three batters he faced. He's had some uncharacteristic struggles this year, but they were never all that concerning. The hard-throwing right-hander might be the best reliever in baseball.

Chris Capuano limited the Braves to one earned run over 7 1/3 innings Saturday in a no-decision.

And that one run scored via a two-run homer that Evan Gattis hit off Kenley Jansen in the bottom of the eighth inning. Capuano was fantastic, yielding five hits and no walks while striking out five. He has been excellent in his last two outings and can be trusted again in deeper mixed fantasy leagues (though maybe not for his next start). Capuano will face the red-hot Cardinals on Friday.

Kenley Jansen took the loss after allowing two runs in the eighth inning Saturday against the Braves.

Chris Capuano was spinning a gem, but he got pulled after allowing a one-out single in the bottom of the eighth and Jansen promptly surrendered a go-ahead two-run shot to Evan Gattis. Jansen then yielded a solo shot to Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons. Brandon League is the primary closer in Los Angeles until further notice.

Brandon McCarthy threw a three-hit shutout as the Diamondbacks beat the Marlins 1-0 on Saturday.

Everybody looks a little better facing the Marlins, but it's the second-straight outing that McCarthy has held the opponent scoreless and he's now turned in three consecutive quality starts. After his early struggles, McCarthy seems to have turned a corner. We look for him to be more consistent going forward. His next turn will come against the Padres on Friday.
May 18 - 9:57 PM

Steve Cishek worked a perfect ninth inning in a non-save situation against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Cishek took the loss against the Reds his last time out, so it was good to see him back and pitching well. The Marlins don't have any better options and Cishek is actually pretty good for the most part, so there's little doubt he will continue to be the closer going forward.
