Devin Mesoraco continued is hot-hitting in Friday's 4-1 victory over the Cubs, going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

The 25-year-old backstop also added to his fantasy value by swiping his first base of the season in the ballgame. He's slashing a mighty .480/.517/.960 with three bombs and nine RBI in his first seven games.
Apr 18 - 7:00 PM

Jonathan Broxton slammed the door on the Cubs in the ninth inning on Friday, preserving a three-run lead and earning his second save of the season.

Broxton walked one and struck out a pair in the outing. He's looked mighty impressive since returning from the disabled list and should be started in all mixed leagues until Aroldis Chapman returns from the disabled list.
Apr 18 - 6:58 PM

Alfredo Simon delivered another outstanding performance in Friday's victory over the Cubs, allowing just one unearned run on four hits in his six innings of work.

Simon struck out three while walking a pair on the afternoon. He now sports an impressive 0.86 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 13/4 K/BB ratio over 21 innings in his first three starts. With Mat Latos still sidelined, he'll continue to have mixed league value in the near-term, and makes for a solid play against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Ike Davis - 1B - Mets

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Pirates and Mets have come to an agreement on a deal that would send Ike Davis to the Pirates.

No word yet on the terms of the deal or the other players involved. Davis should be in line for regular playing time in Pittsburgh, which would be a nice boost to his fantasy value. Similarly, Lucas Duda no longer has to fight for at-bats at first base with the Mets, and should see his value soar as well.
Apr 18 - 6:52 PM

Nate Schierholtz continued his early season struggles, going 0-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Reds.

Schierholtz, hitting in the cleanup spot in manager Rick Renteria's lineup, also left four runners on base in the contest. He's hitting a paltry .231/.241/.288 with no homers and four RBI in his first 13 games. If the bat doesn't start to heat up soon, he could begin losing playing time to Junior Lake, Justin Ruggiano or Ryan Kalish.
Apr 18 - 6:41 PM

Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Reds.

Rizzo's two knocks accounted for a third of the teams total against Alfredo Simon and company in this one. The 24-year-old has been on a tear at the plate during the first month of the season, slashing .345/.409/.517 with two homers and eight RBI.
Apr 18 - 6:38 PM

Jeff Samardzija pitched well in Friday's loss to the Reds, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits over seven strong innings.

Samardzija punched out seven on the afternoon while walking two. Despite a 1.29 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 22/7 K/BB ratio over 28 innings in his first four starts, he sits without a victory at 0-2. He'll try to tally that first win on Wednesday when he battles the Diamondbacks at home.
Apr 18 - 6:35 PM

White Sox manager Robin Ventura indicated Friday that Nate Jones' back injury is a little worse than the team originally thought.

Ventura offered no timetable for when Jones might be allowed to resume throwing, but it doesn't sound like it will be anytime soon. It's obviously not encouraging news, but those stashing Jones in their DL spot should keep doing so as long as they have room.
