Terrell Suggs (biceps) returned to practice on Tuesday.
The Ravens are on bye this week but Suggs' return to practice suggests he'll be ready for Week 9 against Pittsburgh. A torn biceps sidelined him last week against the Jets. Za'Darius Smith filled in for Suggs at right outside linebacker.
Ravens have chosen S Matt Elam (knee) as their designated player to return from injured reserve.
The Ravens can only designate one player to return, which means other players on injured reserve including Marurice Canady, Carl Davis and Sheldon Price will now miss the rest of 2016. Elam returned to practice on Tuesday and is eligible to return against the Browns in Week 10. The Ravens could use some safety help after losing Kendrick Lewis to a thigh injury.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden suggested Josh Norman (concussion) will need to be cleared before the team leaves for London Thursday to play this week.
"So hopefully by [Thursday] we’ll have a good answer," Gruden said. "We’ll have to have one by then, without a doubt." It seems unlikely Norman is completely cleared by then after suffering a concussion Sunday, suggesting he will not be available to face the Bengals. We should know for sure by Thursday night.
Chargers RBs coach Ollie Wilson said the team could try to lighten Melvin Gordon's workload.
"We’ve got to do that for no other reason than down the road when you look at his carries, you say ‘Hey maybe that’s going to be too much,’" Wilson said. Gordon is going to remain the clear lead back, but he is on pace for 361 touches. The Chargers might knock a few touches a game off to keep him fresh, but Gordon's touchdown upside is going to keep him a high-end RB1 all season.
Eagles coach Doug Pederson said he is not "down on" Ryan Mathews despite his two late-game fumbles.
Mathews has fumbled twice in the last three weeks with the Eagles trying to hold a lead late in the game. "We don't want to see it, especially in those situations – four-minute situations there at the end of the game," Pederson said. "But by no means am I down on Ryan at all. We just have to make sure that he understands that he can't obviously do that." It sounds like Mathews will keep his role, but that role is just as a 9-14 carry back. Mathews will score a touchdown or two the rest of the way, but he is at best a FLEX play in a three-way committee.
CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports the 49ers are not shopping Torrey Smith.
They are, but it makes sense for the 49ers to leak they are not attempting to trade their No. 1 receiver to both drive up the price and keep from burning bridges if a deal does not go through. The Eagles have been the only team linked with Smith, but a team like the Bengals or the Steelers could have interest as well.
Colts coach Chuck Pagano said Phillip Dorsett (hamstring) is "trending in the right direction."
"We might get (Dorsett) back out there Wednesday," Pagano added. Dorsett has not been a viable fantasy player even with Donte Moncrief (shoulder) sidelined, and Moncrief is expected back on the practice field Wednesday. Even so, his return would be a boost for Andrew Luck.
Donte Moncrief (shoulder) is expected to practice Wednesday.
"Moncrief has a good chance to get back into the swing of things," coach Chuck Pagano said. "I think he will get on the field on Wednesday in a limited capacity." Even a limited practice that early in the week would give him a decent shot to play, and the Colts do not have the luxury of taking it slow with Phillip Dorsett (hamstring) and Dwayne Allen (ankle) nursing injuries, although Pagano did say Dorsett is "trending in the right direction." If he plays, Moncrief will be an upside WR3 against Kansas City.
