Danny Santana was hitless over four at-bats in Tuesday's loss in Arizona.

Santana continues to struggle at the plate, posting just two hits over the past 19 at-bats dating back to July 2. He spent time on the 10-day disabled list due to a bacterial infection earlier in the month, and he might be still building up his strength. However, he wasn't hitting all that well before the illness.

R.A. Dickey allowed four earned runs, five hits and five walks with four strikeouts over just 3 2/3 innings in a loss Tuesday in Arizona.

Dickey had been trending in the right direction, posting quality starts in five of his past six outings, so he was probably due for a stinker. The walks tied a season high and his previous shortest outing of the season was five innings. He'll look to bounce back Sunday in Philadelphia opposite Vince Velasquez.

Brian McCann hit his 13th homer of the season on Monday night against the Phillies.

It was a solo shot in the top of the second inning, and Alex Bregman followed McCann with a solo shot of his own as the first-place Astros rolled to a big 13-4 victory. McCann, 33, is sporting his best OPS (.778) since 2013, his final year with the Braves and the Astros are 66-33.

George Springer (quad) is expected to avoid the disabled list.

It sounds like the left quad discomfort that forced Springer from Monday's game might have been a cramp more than anything else. Astros manager A.J. Hinch said that Springer is considered day-to-day.
Jul 25 - 1:03 AM

Alex Bregman finished 3-for-5 with a homer and three runs scored Monday against the Phillies.

Bregman went back-to-back with Brian McCann in the top of the second inning, prior to a two-hour rain delay, and he kept the line moving as the Astros continued to pour it on late-night at Citizens Bank Park. Bregman, 23, is off to a very promising start in the second half and quickly becoming another high-production piece for the lethal Houston offense.

Astros recalled OF Derek Fisher from Triple-A Fresno.

George Springer (quad) is expected to avoid the disabled list, but the Astros want to give Fisher another look, anyway. The 23-year-old made a nice five-game impression (.278/.381/.611, two homers) last month and sports a robust .318/.384/.583 line with 21 homers, 66 RBI and 16 steals this season with Fresno. At-bats figure to be available in left field with Marwin Gonzalez moving in to shortstop to cover for Carlos Correa (thumb), so it will be interesting to see whether the Astros give Fisher a chance to run away with a job.
Jul 25 - 12:59 AM

Jose Altuve went 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored in the Astros' 13-4 thrashing of the Phillies on Monday.

Altuve reached base in all five of his trips to the plate, including a first-inning walk. He also had two doubles and a pair of run-scoring singles. The star second baseman has somehow gotten hotter since the All-Star break, even after a scorching first half. He's slashing .365/.431/.574 for an Astros team that is 33 games over .500.

Astros optioned RHP James Hoyt to Triple-A Fresno.

Hoyt has posted a 5.54 ERA over 37 1/3 innings this season, although it's come with a 57/9 K/BB ratio. He'll be back eventually.
