Rangers recalled INF Luis Sardinas from Double-A Frisco.

The 20-year-old infielder was off to a slow start this year at the Double-A level, batting just .226 with a .519 OPS. But he was rated a Top 75 prospect over the winter by Baseball Prospectus and could have an exciting future. He stole 32 bases in the minors last year.

Max Scherzer picked up his first victory of the 2014 season on Saturday, surrendering one run on three hits over seven strong innings against the Angels.

The reigning American League Cy Young winner punched out nine while walking just two in the game. The only damage against him came on a leadoff home run by J.B. Shuck, but he was able to settle in nicely and dominate the rest of the afternoon. He’ll carry a 2.33 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 34/7 K/BB ratio into Thursday’s home start against the White Sox.

J.B. Shuck blasted a leadoff home run off Max Scherzer in Saturday's loss to the Tigers.

As terrific of a start to the game as it was, it would be the only run that they would scratch across against Scherzer. Shuck, hitting out of the leadoff spot in the lineup, finished the day 1-for-4 and is hitting a disappointing .189/.211/.351 in the early going.

Rangers placed OF Jim Adduci on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left pinkie finger.

Infield prospect Luis Sardinas was called up in a corresponding move. Adduci is expected to miss four weeks.
Apr 19 - 4:25 PM

Albert Pujols cranked his 498th career home run off Joe Nathan in the ninth inning of Saturday’s loss to the Tigers.

Pujols finished the afternoon 1-for-3 with a walk and a pair of strikeouts. He’s now upped his season slash to a healthy .282/.354/.606 to go along with six long balls and 14 RBI.
Apr 19 - 4:21 PM

C.J. Wilson struggled in a losing effort against the Tigers on Saturday, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits in his five innings of work.

The veteran southpaw walked three and struck out four on the afternoon. The big blow in the game that proved to be the difference was a two-run homer off the bat of Nick Castellanos in the second inning that got the Tigers on the board. He’ll carry a 4.21 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 28/9 K/BB ratio into Friday’s start against the Yankees in New York.
Apr 19 - 4:20 PM

White Sox recalled RHP Andre Rienzo from Triple-A Charlotte.

Rienzo had a 4.85 ERA and 9/7 K/BB ratio through three starts this season at the Triple-A level. The 25-year-old Brazilian is doubtful to carry fantasy relevance.
Apr 19 - 4:19 PM

White Sox sent LHP Donnie Veal outright to Triple-A Charlotte.

Veal was designated for assignment on Thursday after yielding six hits, seven walks, and five runs in six innings of relief. He made it through waivers unclaimed.
