Denard Span (abdomen) is back in the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

Span missed the previous two contests after being lifted from Thursday's game when he felt soreness in the area where he had core muscle surgery. It's doubtful that he's 100 percent, but it appears the outfielder will gut it out.

Lorenzo Cain will begin serving a two-game suspension on Sunday after dropping his appeal.

It's a little surprising that he'd drop it now and miss a game versus the division-rival Tigers, but obviously the Royals determined it was best to get it out of the way now. Cain will return to action on Wednesday against the Indians.
