The Broncos believe Emmanuel Sanders is game ready despite missing a large chunk of training camp with a hamstring injury.

He's resumed practicing at full speed. "I think we went about it the right way," coach Gary Kubiak said of the Broncos' conservative approach with Sanders' hamstring. "There has been no setbacks. He's had good work."

Patriots placed CB Darryl Roberts (wrist) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Roberts earned first-team reps at OTAs, but got hurt about midway through training camp and will presumably require surgery. A 4.36 speedster at 6-foot, 190, Roberts was a seventh-round selection in this past May's draft.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram suggests Joseph Randle may open the season handling 10-15 carries per game "with (Darren) McFadden slightly below that."

"At the end of the day, we’re both going to get carries however they decide to play it out," said McFadden. Both backs seem resigned to the fact that the Cowboys are committed to a running back by committee. Beat writer Drew Davison confirms none of Dallas' backs "has done enough to separate themselves from the pack." McFadden is shaping up as a dicey flex play to begin the year, while Randle will be toward the back end of RB2s. Lance Dunbar will eat into both players' production in the passing game, further muddying the situation.

Packers WR Jared Abbrederis (concussion) has resumed practicing.

After suffering multiple known concussions at Wisconsin, Abbrederis missed his 2014 rookie year with a torn ACL. He suffered another concussion in one of the first practices of training camp, and is just now getting back into the mix. Abbrederis is still on the doubtful side of questionable to make the 53.

Seahawks WR Chris Matthews (shoulder) has resumed practicing.

Matthews was running as Seattle's No. 3 wideout before spraining an AC joint in the preseason opener. His absence amounted to more first-team offensive reps for impressive rookie Tyler Lockett. It's now unclear whether Matthews will have a role on offense when the regular season begins.

The Cardinals plan to give Chris Johnson "10 to 12 touches" in their preseason finale Thursday night.

This may be Johnson's audition for a roster spot after he missed Arizona's last exhibition game with a hamstring injury. Andre Ellington and David Johnson are healthy, and the latter in particular has shown well in August.

Giants placed RE Jason Pierre-Paul on the reserve/franchise player list.

JPP has not reported to the Giants, and nor has he signed his franchise tender. He lost his index finger in a July 4 fireworks accident. The Giants may be best off considering anything Pierre-Paul gives them in 2015 a bonus.

Raiders released/waived KR Trindon Holliday, CB Ras-I Dowling, CB James Dockery, OG Lamar Mady, P Steven Clark, WR Josh Harper, CB Rob Daniel, QB Cody Fajardo, WR Josh Jarper and S Jimmy Hall.

Hall was waived/injured. Holliday is one of the better return men in the NFL, but undersized and mistake prone. Now 29, he's running out of chances to stick in the league.
