Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Dodgers are talking to the Cubs about a trade involving Alex Wood.

This backs up a report from Robert Murray of BaseballEssential.com that said the Dodgers are shopping the left-hander. The Cubs have been looking everywhere for controllable starters, as they've also been connected to Carlos Carrasco and Tyson Ross, among others. Wood is under team control through 2019.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Rangers "appear to be planning to hold" Yovani Gallardo.

They've been telling teams all along that they'd rather keep Gallardo and make him a qualifying offer over the winter if they're unable to get a trade proposal they like. Evidently teams haven't met the asking price. The Dodgers, Cubs and Blue Jays have been linked to the right-hander.

Orioles recalled RHP Mychal Givens from Double-A Bowie.

He's taking Bud Norris' spot on the roster. Givens has made just one appearance with the O's this season but boasts a 1.79 ERA with 77 strikeouts over 55 1/3 frames at Bowie.

Blue Jays acquired RHP Mark Lowe from the Mariners for LHP Nick Wells, LHP Rob Rasmussen and LHP Jake Brentz.

Lowe has been a big asset in Seattle's pen this year, giving up just four earned runs in 36 innings, but it's also been a long time since he's stayed healthy for a full season. In fact, he hasn't thrown 50 innings in a season since 2011 (he's actually at 45 right now, including his Triple-A time). The Blue Jays can throw him right into a setup role, but who knows if he'll still be able to contribute in September or October.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that trade talks between the Diamondbacks and Reds involving Aroldis Chapman are "completely dead."

Chief baseball officer Tony La Russa reportedly really wanted Chapman, with the idea that the club would trade for him and then ink him to a contract extension. But, it appears they were unable to meet the Reds' asking price. The Astros are still after Chapman.

Mariners acquired LHP Nick Wells, LHP Rob Rasmussen and LHP Jake Brentz from the Blue Jays for RHP Mark Lowe.

The 6-foot-5 Wells was a third-round pick last year, and while he's yet to make his mark as a pro (5.26 ERA in 66 2/3 innings in Rookie ball since 2014), he has a chance to turn into something someday. That makes this a decent return for a veteran reliever signed as a minor league free agent over the winter. Rasmussen is a major league-ready reliever, albeit one without much upside. Brentz is another Rookie ball pitcher.

Robert Murray of BaseballEssential.com reports that the Dodgers have been shopping Alex Wood to "everyone."

There had been some thought that the Dodgers would flip Wood after acquiring him from the Braves and it appears it still may happen. They have been linked to Yovani Gallardo despite having a full rotation, so it seemed like the front office was up to something. Wood is under team control through 2019, so they'd be able to get a bunch for him.

Left-hander Rob Rasmussen was traded from the Blue Jays to the Mariners in a four-player deal.

Rasmussen has pitched really well as a Triple-A reliever these last two years, but the Jays never thought he was any sort of solution to their bullpen woes. He pitched 11 1/3 innings in the majors last year, with a 3.18 ERA, and just one inning this year, throwing a scoreless frame in June. He'll probably get more of a chance in Seattle, but he's a fringy talent.
