Michael Bourn (finger) played five innings in an extended spring training game Tuesday.
The veteran outfielder had no issues and should soon advance to full games at the Orioles' spring training facility in Sarasota, Florida. Bourn suffered a fractured right ring finger back in late February. He'll likely be stationed at Triple-A Norfolk once he's deemed fully healthy.
Mike Yastrzemski (hip) played nine innings Tuesday in an extended spring training game.
Yastrzemski is nearing the end of his rehab from offseason core and hip labrum surgeries and could soon be ready to join up with one of the Orioles' minor league affiliates -- probably Triple-A Norfolk. The 26-year-old outfielder batted .234/.325/.391 with 13 home runs and 14 stolen bases in 127 games last summer between the Double-A and Triple-A levels.
Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said Tuesday that John Gant (groin) can "start pushing a little bit" in his rehab.
Gant was placed on the major league disabled list at the end of March with a severe right groin strain. The 24-year-old right-hander will probably be sent to Triple-A Memphis once he returns to full strength. Acquired from the Braves this winter in the Jaime Garcia trade, Gant is organizational rotation depth for St. Louis.
Luke Weaver (back) could return to the rotation at Triple-A Memphis within a week.
Weaver threw a successful round of live batting practice Tuesday at the Cardinals' spring training complex in Jupiter, Florida. The talented 23-year-old right-hander was placed on the minor league disabled list April 10 because of lower back stiffness. He could be an option for the Cardinals' rotation by early-to-mid May, but all five spots are filled at the moment.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal confirms that the Pirates are promoting minor league infielder Gift Ngoepe.
He'll be the first-ever African-born player to reach the major league level. Ngoepe, 27, was batting just .241/.308/.379 through 66 plate appearances this season with Triple-A Indianapolis, but the Bucs are desperate for infield depth with David Freese nursing a sore hamstring. Ngoepe probably won't be up for long and is not fantasy-relevant.
Reds activated RHP Rookie Davis from the 10-day disabled list.
Davis will return to the Reds' starting rotation on Wednesday against the Brewers after missing two weeks with a bruised right forearm. The young starter owns a rough 6.43 ERA and 1.86 WHIP through his first seven major league innings.
Reds optioned OF Phillip Ervin to Triple-A Louisville.
Ervin went 0-for-2 with a walk during his short stay at the major league level. It was the first taste of MLB action for the 24-year-old outfielder.
An MRI on Troy Tulowitzki's strained right hamstring revealed no surprises.
The club's medical staff wanted to rule out anything major before allowing Tulowitzki to resume baseball activities. There is no specific timetable on the star shortstop's return, but this shouldn't be more than a two-week injury. Ryan Goins has been filling in at short for Toronto.
