Adam Wainwright was lit up for six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Rays.

Wainwright had an abnormal amount of rest after pitching one inning in last week's 2014 MLB All-Star Game and looked off at home versus Tampa Bay, issuing four walks and surrendering six hits in the rough outing. He should be able to bounce back next week in San Diego. The ace right-hander still boasts a 2.02 ERA and 0.95 WHIP on the season.

The Cubs have promoted outfield prospect Albert Almora to Double-A Tennessee.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2012 draft, Almora was batting .280/.304/.396 with six homers, 47 RBI and six stolen bases at High-A Daytona. The 20-year-old is still a long ways away from the majors but certainly has plenty of upside if he can hit his ceiling.
Jul 22 - 11:39 PM

Aramis Ramirez hit his 12th home run of the season in Tuesday's win over the Reds.

Ramirez took Homer Bailey deep in the first inning, his first homer since June 26. The third baseman is hitting .284/.333/.455 with 46 RBI and isn't showing many signs of slowing down despite turning 36 years old last month.
Jul 22 - 11:34 PM

The Cubs have promoted outfield prospect Jorge Soler to Triple-A Iowa.

Soler needed a new challenge after batting .415 with six homers over 65 at-bats at the Double-A level. The 22-year-old seems unlikely to get a promotion in September but could be a key member of the Cubs in 2015.
Jul 22 - 11:32 PM

Ryan Braun went 2-for-4 with a home run in Tuesday's win over the Reds.

Braun hit one of the team's three solo home runs against Reds starter Homer Bailey on the evening. The blast was his 13th of the season, giving him 57 RBI and 50 runs scored. He's batting .304/.356/.534 with an OPS that's eighth-best in the National League. Assuming his nagging injuries don't play a major role, Braun should continue to be a nice fantasy contributor in the season's second half.
Jul 22 - 11:30 PM

Homer Bailey allowed three runs, all on solo home runs, over six innings in a no-decision against the Brewers on Tuesday.

Bailey only gave up four hits on the night, but three -- to Ryan Braun, Aramis Ramirez and Jonathan Lucroy -- left the yard. Bailey also walked two while striking out just three. Bailey has one more start left in July as he looks to avoid a winless month. He's 8-5 with a 4.22 ERA and 1.31 WHIP through 20 starts overall.
Jul 22 - 11:27 PM

Jimmy Nelson allowed three runs on four hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Tuesday.

Nelson actually got through six innings with only one run allowed, but things fell apart in the seventh. The Reds got two quick singles and Nelson proceeded to hit Zack Cozart and Ramon Santiago to force in a run, with the second HBP ending his night. Reliever Brandon Kintzler did his best to limit the damage, but the Reds plated one more to saddle Nelson with the no-decision. He walked one and struck out five on the evening. The right-hander is still in search of his second win, and he'll carry a 5.06 ERA into Sunday's meeting with the Mets.
Jul 22 - 11:23 PM

Josh Beckett went home with a no-decision after allowing four runs in 3 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 12-7 loss to the Pirates.

The Pirates had Beckett's number, bashing five extra-base hits against the right-hander before chasing him with two outs in the fourth. Gregory Polanco, Neil Walker, and Ike Davis each homered against him. Overall, Beckett allowed six hits, walked none, and struck out four. The veteran has otherwise had a great season, now carrying a 2.52 ERA with a 2.52 ERA and a 99/32 K/BB ratio. He'll match up against the Braves at home next Wednesday.
