George Springer (quad) is expected to avoid the disabled list.

It sounds like the left quad discomfort that forced Springer from Monday's game might have been a cramp more than anything else. Astros manager A.J. Hinch said that Springer is considered day-to-day.

Alex Bregman finished 3-for-5 with a homer and three runs scored Monday against the Phillies.

Bregman went back-to-back with Brian McCann in the top of the second inning, prior to a two-hour rain delay, and he kept the line moving as the Astros continued to pour it on late-night at Citizens Bank Park. Bregman, 23, is off to a very promising start in the second half and quickly becoming another amazing piece for first-place Houston.

Astros recalled OF Derek Fisher from Triple-A Fresno.

George Springer (quad) is expected to avoid the disabled list, but the Astros want to give Fisher another look, anyway. The 23-year-old made a nice five-game impression (.278/.381/.611, two homers) last month and sports a robust .318/.384/.583 line with 21 homers, 66 RBI and 16 steals this season with Fresno. At-bats are available in left field with Marwin Gonzalez moving in to shortstop to cover for Carlos Correa (thumb), so it will be interesting to see whether the Astros give Fisher a chance to run away with a job.

Jose Altuve went 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored in the Astros' 13-4 thrashing of the Phillies on Monday.

Altuve reached base in all five of his trips to the plate, including a first-inning walk. He also had two doubles and a pair of run-scoring singles. The star second baseman has somehow gotten hotter since the All-Star break, even after a scorching first half. He's slashing .365/.431/.574 for an Astros team that is 33 games over .500.

Astros optioned RHP James Hoyt to Triple-A Fresno.

Hoyt has posted a 5.54 ERA over 37 1/3 innings this season, although it's come with a 57/9 K/BB ratio. He'll be back eventually.

Brad Peacock threw three innings of one-run ball in Monday's rain-delayed win over the Phillies.

A storm rolled in during the top of the fourth inning and the ensuing delay lasted nearly two hours, so Peacock was finished after three and robbed of a 9-1 record. He struck out four, allowed two hits, and walked two batters in the eventual 13-4 rout for Houston. The 29-year-old right-hander is 8-1 with a stellar 2.51 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 71 2/3 innings. He'll be well-rested for his next start at Detroit's Comerica Park.
Jul 25 - 12:47 AM

Vince Velasquez allowed four runs in three-plus innings Monday as the Phillies fell to the Astros.

It was an ugly, stormy night for Philadelphia and Velasquez didn't help the cause. He walked three batters and gave up six hits before getting pulled after a two-hour rain delay in the top of the fourth inning. The 25-year-old right-hander fell to 2-6 with a 5.49 ERA in 12 starts this season. He just missed a large chunk of time with an elbow injury and is looking like an unreliable fantasy option for the stretch run.
Jul 25 - 12:42 AM

Nick Williams hit a three-run triple in the seventh inning of Monday night's loss to the Phillies.

It was one of the only positive moments of the night for the Phils, who lost 13-4 in the rain-delayed snoozer at Citizens Bank Park. Williams also singled in the ninth inning, finishing with 2-for-5 with three RBI. The 23-year-old outfielder is off to a terrific start as a major leaguer, now with 18 RBI in 20 games. He's batting .306/.342/.611.
