Aaron Hicks - OF - Twins

Aaron Hicks, and the majority of the Twins’ offense, went hitless against Anibal Sanchez in Friday’s loss to the Tigers.

Even though he’s picked up the pace offensively in recent weeks, Hicks is still hitting an incredibly disappointing .157/.242/.279 on the season with four homers, 16 RBI and four stolen bases. While he possesses exceptional talent and tools, he may be best served on benches in fantasy leagues until he can establish consistency at the plate.

Samuel Deduno - S - Twins

Samuel Deduno was hammered by the Tigers in his season debut on Friday, surrendering six runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings of work.

Deduno also walked three and struck out two on the evening. While the Twins are starved for quality options in their starting rotation, perhaps Deduno may not be the optimal choice. Assuming he sticks around to make another start, he’ll do battle against the Brewers at home on Wednesday. He remains a non-factor in all fantasy leagues.

Chris Carpenter - S - Cardinals

Chris Carpenter (shoulder, neck) threw a successful bullpen session on Friday.

The Cardinals are considering allowing Carpenter to throw to live hitters on Tuesday as the next step in his recovery. While he's far from a sure thing, it looks like he's making tangible progress toward joining the Cardinals' rotation. Assuming no setbacks, he could return around the end of June.

Curtis Granderson - OF - Yankees

Curtis Granderson was removed from Friday's game against the Rays in the fifth inning after he was hit in the left hand by a pitch.

Granderson remained in the game to run for himself, but continued to flex and shake his hand. However, Ichiro Suzuki replaced him in right field in the bottom of the inning. He's likely heading for X-rays and the team should have an update on his status shortly.

Oscar Taveras - OF - Cardinals

Oscar Taveras (ankle) has been doing running and agility drills and is expected to return to the starting lineup at Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.

The Cardinals' top prospect has been sidelined since May 12 when he suffered the ankle injury while sliding into second base on a stolen base attempt. The Cardinals have opted to play it cautiously in with his recovery as to not risk further injury. He'll return to a stellar .311/.351/.480 line with four homers, 20 RBI and five steals through his first 31 games.

Brett Lawrie - 3B - Blue Jays

Brett Lawrie was ejected from Friday's game against the Orioles after objecting to a called third strike.

Lawrie slammed his batting helmet and threw his batting gloves before getting tossed. Lawrie had launched a solo homer in his other at-bat in the game, perhaps some of the frustration came from the 9-3 deficit that his team was facing in only the third inning. He'll watch the rest of the game from the clubhouse.

Oscar Taveras - OF - Cardinals

Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras has been sidelined since leaving a game at Triple-A Memphis on May 12 with an ankle injury.

He suffered the injury while sliding into second base on a steal attempt. While there was no structural damage found, the organization has decided to play it very cautiously with their top prospect. He's hitting .317/.351/.480 with four homers, 20 RBI and five steals through his first 31 games. He's expected to reach the Cardinals at some point during the 2013 season and could be an impact addition in fantasy leagues.

Alexi Ogando - S - Rangers

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Friday that he's not sure whether Alexi Ogando (biceps) will require a minor league rehab start before coming off the disabled list.

Ogando will throw off flat ground on Saturday and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Monday. An MRI revealed no structural damage in his biceps, so as long as he feels no pain, he should be ready to go as soon as he's eligible to come off the disabled list.
