John Danks was crushed by the Twins on Sunday, allowing seven runs (three earned) in just 2 1/3 innings.

The Twins opened the game up with a seven-run third inning, keyed by Trevour Plouffe's grand slam. The "unearned runs" on the line came via a Danks error to load the bases just prior to the Plouffe slam, plus another Danks error later in the inning. The Twins have to have a talk with their home scorekeeper here. Earned, unearned, we're quibbling with semantics. The outing was awful. Danks now holds a 6.20 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP, with a 19/6 K/BB ratio in 24 2/3 innings. He's not a reliable starter for fantasy play at this point, but he'll at least try to rebound from this meltdown when he faces the Reds in his next outing.

Red Sox prospect Jantzen Witte collected four hits Sunday for Double-A Portland.

Witte doubled twice and finished a triple shy of the cycle. The 25-year-old isn't usually thought of as a top prospect, but he's certainly been playing like one. Sunday's four-hit effort raised his average 30 points from .324 to 354. Witte's solo homer in the third inning was his second of the season.

Evan Gattis homered twice and drove in four runs in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Mariners.

Gattis put up huge numbers against the Mariners, finishing 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored. He hit a three-run shot off J.A. Happ in the first inning to jump the Astros out to a 3-0 lead, then hit a solo shot in the eighth inning to put them ahead 7-6. That would hold as the final score. Gattis has now homered in three straight games, a hot streak that's come seemingly from nowhere. Prior to the start of the team's home series with the Mariners, Gattis was hitting just .174/.208/.304 with two home runs and seven RBI. He exits with a line of .198/.225/.442, six home runs and 17 RBI. Not a bad little series.

Pirates prospect Tyler Glasnow lost a perfect game in the fifth inning Friday in a win for Double-A Altoona.

He only gave up one hit, striking out seven in a six-inning effort. The 6'8, 225-pounder is an imposing figure on the mound. In four starts, opponents have scored just two runs off him while batting .158 with six walks. The 21-year-old and former fifth-round pick is widely considered Pittsburgh's top prospect.

Mariners optioned RHP Yoervis Medina to Triple-A Tacoma.

The 26-year-old right-hander entered the season as one of the primary set-up options in the Mariners bullpen, and held his own with a 3.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 9/7 K/BB ratio over 12 innings of work. The team will hold off on announcing a corresponding roster move until Monday.

Mariners optioned LHP Tyler Olson to Triple-A Tacoma.

The 25-year-old southpaw appeared in 11 games for the Mariners, posting a 5.40 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and 8/10 K/BB ratio. He'll continue to function as organizational bullpen depth.
May 3 - 5:31 PM

Luke Gregerson earned his sixth save on Sunday, walking one and striking out one Mariner in a scoreless ninth.

After walking Rickie Weeks, Gregerson induced a double-play grounder from Brad Miller to end the game. It's been a sketchy few days for Gregerson, who allowed two home runs on Friday. He picked up the save in that one, too. While he's now 6-for-7 in save chances, he'll have to pitch more tightly if he expects to keep up the good percentage. For the season, he holds a 2.77 and 10/2 K/BB ratio over 13 innings.

Jose Iglesias (groin) is hopeful that he'll be able to return to the Tigers starting lineup on Tuesday.

Iglesias left Sunday's game against the Royals due to tightness in his left groin. The defensive wizard said that he originally tweaked it during the ninth inning on Saturday and that it tightened back up on him during Sunday's contest. The Tigers may play it safe and give him an extra day off after Monday's off day.
