Red Sox manager John Farrell said Monday that he doesn't expect Koji Uehara (hamstring) to be ready for Opening Day.

It's not a big surprise at this point. Uehara suffered a left hamstring strain about two weeks ago and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Monday, but there's simply not enough time to get him ready for Opening Day. However, he should join Boston's bullpen relatively quickly if he can avoid setbacks. Edward Mujica will be the favorite for saves during his absence, but Farrell could also play the matchups.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Monday that he expects Rule 5 pick Sean Gilmartin to make the Opening Day roster.

The Mets acquired Jerry Blevins and Alex Torres on Monday, so if they decide to keep Gilmartin, that means they will carry three left-handers in their bullpen. Gilmartin would have to go back to the Twins if he doesn't make the team. The 24-year-old has a 5.19 ERA with an 11/5 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings this spring.

Nationals acquired OF Matt den Dekker from the Mets for LHP Jerry Blevins.

It's a rare in-division trade, but the deal solves a need for both clubs. The 27-year-old den Dekker wasn't going to make the Mets' Opening Day roster and profiles as a fifth outfielder-type, but he's capable of playing all three outfield positions, which is useful for the Nationals given the status of Denard Span, Jayson Werth, and Nate McLouth.

Mets acquired LHP Jerry Blevins from the Nationals for OF Matt den Dekker.

The Mets have now acquired two left-handed relievers in the last couple of hours -- Alex Torres from the Padres and now Blevins from Washington. Blevins had a 4.87 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 57 1/3 innings with the Nationals last season.

Josmil Pinto (concussion) caught three innings Monday in a minor league game.

Pinto also went 0-for-1 with two walks at the plate. He was shut down for eight days with a concussion but looks to be a go for the beginning of the season.
Mar 30 - 3:29 PM

Twins purchased the contract of RHP Blaine Boyer from Triple-A Rochester.

Boyer was in Twins camp this spring on a minor league deal and pitched well enough to earn an Opening Day bullpen spot. The veteran will act as a middle reliever.

Kyle Gibson has been scratched from his scheduled start Monday night due to an illness.

Gibson should be fine to take his turn in the Twins' spring rotation later this week. He is expected to open the season as Minnesota's fourth starter.
Mar 30 - 3:20 PM

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Allen Webster to Triple-A Reno.

Webster registered an 8.18 ERA in five appearances this spring in the Cactus League. The 25-year-old righty owns a 6.25 ERA in 89 1/3 career major league innings.
