Yohan Flande held the Cubs to one run over five innings in a win on Tuesday.

Flande gave up four hits and three walks, giving up only a single run. The southpaw also struck out four in the outing. The start was his first of the year for the Rockies after making 10 starts last season. He likely garnered another start with Tuesday's effort, which will come Sunday at the Cardinals.

Joey Votto went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run as the Reds shut out the Cardinals 4-0 on Tuesday.

Votto hit a single and a double to go along with his three-run homer in the sixth inning. The multi-hit game was his eighth in his last 11 contests, including five three-hit outings. After a lull in early July, the 31-year-old is back to hitting a robust .311/.428/.538 with 19 homers, 51 RBI and 55 runs scored overall.

Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports that Mookie Betts will likely be placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Betts is showing concussion symptoms after tumbling over the short bullpen wall at Fenway Park while trying to make a catch during Tuesday's game. It's unclear at this point how much time he might miss, but it makes no sense for the Red Sox to push him. Jackie Bradley Jr. is expected to be called up to take Betts' spot on the roster and in center field.

Matt Carpenter went hitless again Tuesday, dropping his average to .252 on the year.

The third baseman went 0-for-4 and struck out twice against Reds starter Mike Leake, continuing his freefall since the end of May. Carpenter is now hitting .172 (15-for-87) with 19 strikeouts in July. He insists there's nothing physical going on, but there's certainly something wrong with the 29-year-old's swing right now.
Jul 28 - 11:08 PM

Jake Odorizzi got the win with six innings of one-run ball versus the Tigers as the Rays skated to a 10-2 victory on Tuesday.

Yoenis Cespedes belted a solo home run to right-center in the fourth inning, accounting for the scant damage. Odorizzi scattered six hits and a walk while striking out eight in the sterling effort. In 16 starts, the right-hander has a 2.76 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and an 82/26 K/BB ratio in 97 2/3 innings. Odorizzi is scheduled to take on the White Sox in a road start next.
Jul 28 - 11:04 PM

Mike Leake threw eight shutout innings in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.

In what was possibly his last start as a member of the Reds, Leake showed off for potential suitors. The right-hander scattered four hits and a walk over eight innings, striking out three. It was his fourth straight start allowing zero or one run, improving to 9-5 with a 3.56 ERA and 1.15 WHIP on the year. In the event Leake survives the trade deadlien as a member of the Reds, he'll take on the Pirates on Sunday.
Jul 28 - 11:03 PM

Tim Beckham went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI as the Rays trampled the Tigers on Tuesday.

Beckham put the Rays up 1-0 with an RBI single in the second inning. The Rays had the bases loaded for him with the eighth and he promptly unloaded them with a triple as part of a five-run frame. Beckham has been on fire since rejoining the team to begin the second half, batting .346 (9-for-26) in 10 games.
Jul 28 - 11:02 PM

David Price lost to the Rays on Tuesday, surrendering five runs in six innings of work.

The Rays jumped on him for three runs in the fourth inning, two of which came on the first of Curt Casali's two home runs. Casali victimized Price again for a solo shot in the sixth. The lefty, overall, allowed seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out four. He stands with a terrific 2.53 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and a 138/29 K/BB ratio in 146 innings. If Price remains with the Tigers through the trade deadline, he's on tap to finish out a road trip in Baltimore against the Orioles.
