Cubs optioned RHP Adam Warren to Triple-A Iowa.
Warren has disappointed for the Cubs this season with a 5.91 ERA and 27/19 K/BB ratio over 35 innings. Joe Nathan has assumed his spot in the bullpen.
MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports that Chris Sale is not expected to be at the ballpark on Sunday.
Sale was scratched from Saturday's start and sent home after a run-in with the front office regarding throwback uniforms that he didn't want to wear. The White Sox have listed him as the scheduled starter on Thursday against the Cubs, although that could be tentative. Sale has also been mentioned as a trade candidate.
Jake Lamb is absent from the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday.
He's getting a breather with the Reds throwing southpaw Brandon Finnegan. Brandon Drury is handling third base.
SiriusXM's Craig Mish reports that Wei-Yin Chen's injury is arm related and is "could be (his) elbow."
The Marlins announced Saturday that Chen would not start Monday, but they didn't reveal the nature of his injury. It's unclear at this point how serious the ailment might be, but we should find out before long. Jarred Cosart is taking Chen's spot in the rotation for now, but the club is almost surely going to land a starter prior to the trade deadline.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Cubs are "strong in mix" for Aroldis Chapman.
The Nationals have been perceived as the favorites to land Chapman and they still might be, but the Cubs appear to be a threat. Rosenthal adds that there are "at least two other clubs involved" for Chapman in addition to the Cubs, noting that Giants, Dodgers and Indians in addition to the aforementioned Nats have been connected to the reliever.
Neil Walker is not in the Mets' lineup Sunday.
It appears to be a simple day off. Kelly Johnson is filling in at second base for Walker. Travis d'Arnaud is also sitting out, as Rene Rivera is doing the catching. Michael Conforto is getting his first career start in center field Sunday.
Melvin Upton is not in the Padres' lineup Sunday.
It's interesting, obviously, with the rumors floating around regarding Upton being traded soon. For now, though, it doesn't appear anything is imminent. Alex Dickerson is in left field.
Mikie Mahtook (hand) will hit off a tee Sunday.
Mahtook has missed over a month of action with a fractured left hand. He probably won't be back until late August, at the earliest.
