According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Diamondbacks have let it be known that they are open to trading Aaron Hill, Cody Ross, and Trevor Cahill.

The rebuild is chugging along under new chief baseball officer Tony La Russa. Hill batted just .244/.287/.367 in 133 games last season for the Diamondbacks, but he was very good in 2012 and 2013. Hill turns 33 years old in March and is owed $24 million total over the next two seasons.

Troy Tulowitzki (hip) began base-running work Monday.

He is easing into action this spring after undergoing season-ending hip surgery last August. Tulowitzki should be ready for Opening Day and remains a first-round fantasy guy because of his immense level of production when healthy. He hit .340/.432/.603 with 21 home runs and 52 RBI in 91 games last season.

Carlos Gonzalez (knee) ran the bases in Rockies camp Monday for the first time this spring.

Troy Tulowitzki did the same. Gonzalez is recovering from August surgery to repair the patellar tendon in his left knee, and Tulo is on his way back from a hip procedure. Both players are expected to be ready for the beginning of the 2015 regular season.

Matt Holliday said Monday in Cardinals camp that he hopes the team exercises his $17 million option for 2017.

"I'm not too concerned about the money," Holliday told Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. "I like it here." Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt Jr. has indicated to Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the option will likely be exercised. Holliday's seven-year, $120 million contract with the Cardinals has been a big success for both sides, but he will be 37 years old when that 2017 option is due.

Elvis Andrus left the Rangers' team workout Sunday with minor soreness in his left knee.

Andrus paid a visit to Dr. Keith Meister, who told Rangers general manager Jon Daniels that it's not a significant injury. The 26-year-old shortstop may take it easy for a couple of days, but he should get into Cactus League games soon enough. He's trying to get his career back on track after batting just .263/.314/.333 in 2014. Andrus was also caught stealing on 15 of his 42 stolen base attempts last year.

Chase Utley won't appear in any spring games this week due to lingering ankle soreness.

Utley suffered a mild right ankle sprain during a workout in January and the Phillies are easing him along in camp. The 36-year-old second baseman is not yet in danger of missing any regular-season action. He should only need around 40-50 at-bats in the Grapefruit League.

Derek Holland (shoulder) plans to play catch Monday.

Holland was scratched from an appearance in an intrasquad game Sunday due to discomfort in his left shoulder, but the belief is that it's just routine spring soreness. The 28-year-old southpaw is aiming for a big bounceback 2015 after logging just 37 innings in 2014. He had microfracture knee surgery last January.
Mar 2 - 11:23 AM

Alex Rodriguez is serving as the designated hitter Monday in an intrasquad game.

The game will be played with pitching machines rather than live throwers, so it's more of a drill than a scrimmage. A-Rod arrived at Yankees camp last Monday and seems to be getting along with the other players and coaches just fine. He's been taking some reps at first base but will likely get most of his playing time at DH in 2015.
