Yasiel Puig was scratched from the Dodgers' lineup on Tuesday because of a sore left hamstring.

Trayce Thompson will start in right field and Carl Crawford will start in left field versus Cubs ace Jake Arrieta. Puig was limited to 79 games in 2015 largely because of hamstring issues, so this will be a situation to monitor over the next couple days. He's slashing just .239/.286/.364 over his first 196 plate appearances in 2016.

Travis Jankowski hit his first home run of the season Tuesday in the Padres' loss to the Mariners.

It was a two-run shot in the top of the sixth inning, but the Friars were already down 16-0 at that point. Jankowski is hitting .238/.347/.357 in 49 plate appearances this season as a backup outfielder.

James Shields was pounded for 10 earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings Tuesday by the Mariners.

That might quiet some of the trade talk that had been building around Shields over the last week. He entered the start with a shiny 3.06 season ERA but watched it balloon to 4.28 by his exit in the bottom of the third. Shields walked four and gave up eight hits, including homers to Kyle Seager and Seth Smith. He'll try to get back on track next time out in a home start against the Rockies.

Lance McCullers was shaky but earned the win in an 8-5 defeat of the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Making his fourth start of the season, McCullers struggled with his control, walking four batters while allowing six base hits over five innings. His seven strikeouts helped limit the damage to three earned runs. The win boosted McCullers’ record to 2-1 while his ERA rose to 4.79 on the season. The 22-year-old missed the first six weeks with a shoulder injury and has not yet returned to the form that saw him yield a 3.22 ERA over 125 innings as a rookie last year.
May 31 - 8:06 PM

Brandon Phillips was scratched from the Reds' lineup Tuesday due to a sore left foot.

The veteran second baseman is considered day-to-day. Jordan Pacheco will fill in at Coors Field.
May 31 - 7:56 PM

Patrick Corbin was shelled for seven earned runs over 3 1/3 innings in a loss Tuesday versus the Astros.

Corbin was pulled in the fourth inning after allowing nine hits and two free passes. The big blow was a three-run bomb by George Springer. Corbin did manage three strikeouts. The awful outing spiked Corbin’s season ERA from 4.21 all the way up to 4.96. The 26-year-old lefty will look to regain his form versus the mighty Cubs on Sunday.

An MRI taken Monday on C.J. Wilson's left arm showed no new damage.

That's nice news, but the veteran left-hander remains shut down indefinitely with elbow soreness. Wilson was initially placed on the disabled list in early April with shoulder inflammation, and then he developed biceps tendinitis during his rehab. He might not throw a pitch at the major league level in 2016, unless something changes soon.
May 31 - 7:27 PM

Luke Gregerson notched his 13th save of the season on Tuesday against Arizona.

Gregerson was called upon to squelch a Diamondbacks rally in the ninth inning. Arizona had already scored two runs off Scott Feldman on a Jean Segura double. Gregerson entered and promptly struck out three batters in a row, including Paul Goldschmidt to preserve the victory for the Astros.
