Ryan Goins went 4-for-5 with a double and four RBI in the rout of the Red Sox on Monday.

There's no way Goins is going 4-for-5 with four RBI in a game in which his team doesn't score 14 runs. The second baseman entered with a .175 average and four RBI in 30 games and 80 at-bats this season. He'll continue to play against righties until Brett Lawrie returns, at which point the Jays will reevaluate their situations at both second and third.

Adeiny Hechavarria tripled in the tying run and scored the winning run as the Marlins came back to beat the Nationals 7-6 on Monday.

The Marlins scored all seven of their runs unanswered in the final three innings. The last four came in the ninth off Rafael Soriano, a guy who had allowed five runs all year. Hechavarria also singled in the contest. The RBI was just his 20th in 334 at-bats, and he's still without a homer.

Nathan Eovaldi was ineffective again Monday, yielding five runs in 5 1/3 innings versus the Nationals.

In his last 11 starts, Eovaldi has given up five or more runs six times and won just once. His peripherals suggest that his ERA should be significantly better than his current 4.37 mark, but he just hasn't been able to maintain the same kind of effectiveness out of the stretch as he has in the windup this year. There's little reason to hang on to him in a shallow mixed league.

Rafael Soriano took his fourth blown save and his first loss of the year after giving up four runs in the ninth Monday against the Marlins.

This one hurts. Soriano saw his ERA jump all of the way from 1.10 to 1.96 after retiring just one of the six batters he faced. He had been scored upon just four times in 41 previous appearances this year, giving up five runs total.

Jayson Werth (ankle) is expected back in the lineup on Tuesday.

Werth exited Monday's game after twisting his ankle, but it appears that he'll be fine. The Nationals outfielder is sporting a .284/.376/.445 batting line with 12 homers and 58 RBI this season.

Garrett Jones tripled, doubled and scored twice against the Nationals on Monday.

Jones seems to have come out of his slump, as he's now hit in six straight. Yesterday's hit was a homer, ending a drought that extended back to June 24.
Jul 28 - 10:46 PM

Josh Rutledge was scratched from Monday's lineup due to illness.

He should be ready to go in a day or two. Rutledge has hit .375/.375/.656 with one homer and nine RBI over seven games since taking over shortstop for the injured Troy Tulowitzki (hip).

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Red Sox are open to trading both John Lackey and Jon Lester for the right returns.

It had been clear that they were listening on Lester, but it appears they'd consider dealing Lackey, as well. While Lester is set to hit free agency after the season, the Red Sox have a $500,000 club option on Lackey for 2015 that's as a result of his 2012 Tommy John surgery. That obviously makes his value much higher. Lackey is also pitching very well for the second straight season, posting a 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 116/32 K/BB ratio over 137 1/3 innings.
