Royals manager Ned Yost said Tuesday that it remains unlikely Nate Karns (elbow) will make his next scheduled start.

Karns was pulled after throwing five innings of one-run ball last Friday against the Twins due to fluid buildup in his right elbow. He hasn't been placed on the disabled list, but Miguel Almonte is expected to pitch in his place Thursday against the Yankees. There should be something more official soon.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Chris Taylor could soon see starts in the outfield.

Logan Forsythe (toe) just returned from the disabled list, crowding the situations at second and third base. Roberts wants to continue finding regular starts for Taylor, who's slashing .333/.446/.583 with five home runs and 16 RBI in 29 games.

Chris Bassitt has begun experiencing arm fatigue in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

Bassitt will get a few extra days off before his next minor league rehab start, and the A's are hoping that will do the trick. The right-hander was lit up for seven earned runs over 4 2/3 innings in his last appearance (May 20) with Triple-A Nashville. He worked five scoreless innings for Nashville on May 15.

Felix Hernandez (shoulder) played long toss on Tuesday.

The tentative plan calls for King Felix to resume pitching off a mound this weekend. Hernandez has been out since April 26 with right shoulder inflammation and there's still not a clear timetable for his return to the Mariners' starting rotation. It'll be at least another three weeks.
May 23 - 7:23 PM

Tommy Hunter (calf) allowed two runs on three hits in a one-inning rehab appearance Tuesday with High-A Charlotte.

Not the greatest results, but Hunter reported feeling fine and if he pitches a little better in his next rehab outing the Rays could go ahead and activate him. The right-hander had a 1.08 ERA in 10 relief appearances for Tampa Bay before straining his right calf in late April while rushing to cover first base.
May 23 - 7:14 PM

A.J. Pollock (groin) hit in the cage and ran on an anti-gravity treadmill Tuesday.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters after the workout that Pollock will not require a minor league rehab assignment, but the center fielder is still probably a week or two away. He's been on the disabled list since May 15 with a Grade 1 right groin strain.

Dodgers released OF Tyler Holt.

Holt struggled at both Double-A and Triple-A in the Dodgers' system, and he batted just .235/.327/.296 for the Reds in 2016. The 28-year-old outfielder will have to settle for another non-guaranteed minor league deal.
May 23 - 7:00 PM

Yonder Alonso (knee) is back in the Athletics' starting lineup on Tuesday night.

Alonso will start at first base and bat fifth against Marlins right-hander Jose Urena after missing close to a week with a bruised left knee. Hopefully the 30-year-old slugger can pick up where he left off. He boasts a .991 OPS (173 OPS+) with 12 home runs and 29 RBI through 38 games this season with the A's.
