Jose Bautista smashed a three-run homer off Yu Darvish to lead his club to a 3-1 victory over the Rangers on Saturday.

Coming to the plate with two out in the fifth inning with runners on first and third, Bautista smoked a hanging breaking ball from Darvish well over the wall in left field. It was all the offense the Blue Jays would need to win the game. Bautista was ice cold for the entire month of April, but has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball lately. For the season he has a .236 batting average with nine home runs and 26 RBI.

Roberto Osuna tossed a drama-free ninth inning to earn a save against the Rangers on Saturday.

After inducing a flyout and a groundout to begin the inning he struck out Ryan Rua to end the game. Osuna now has nine saves and two wins to go against three blown saves and zero losses. He has a 2.89 ERA with 21 strikeouts and only two walks in 18 2/3 frames.

Marco Estrada beat the Rangers on Saturday by allowing just one run in six innings of work.

He allowed a home run to the first batter of the game but was lights out from then on. He surrendered only four hits and one walk in the game and punched out eight batters. His excellent 78/17 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 68 2/3 innings has led to a fine 3.15 ERA in eleven starts. He will put his 4-2 record on the line against the Yankees on Thursday.

Mike Fiers has been moved to the bullpen.

This comes after Fiers was knocked around for 10 hits and four runs (three earned) Thursday against Detroit. His rotation spot will be absorbed by Brad Peacock. Fiers will operate in a long relief role until a spot opens up for him in the starting rotation.

Willson Contreras is not in the Cubs' lineup Saturday against the Dodgers.

He's out of the lineup for the second time in three days. Miguel Montero will catch for right-hander John Lackey on Saturday. Contreras hasn't hit for a high average this year (just .235 in 132 at-bats) but ranks fourth among catchers with 22 RBI.
May 27 - 4:41 PM

Javier Baez is not in the Cubs' lineup Saturday against the Dodgers.

He's just getting a breather. Ian Happ will handle second base and fifth against Dodgers right-hander Brandon McCarthy. Baez has been red-hot at the plate, earning nine hits in his last 19 at-bats. Hopefully Saturday's absence won't ruin his momentum.
May 27 - 4:40 PM

Shin-Soo Choo led off the game with a solo home run that produced his club's only run of the contest in a loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday.

He provided a spark at the top of the lineup but his teammates didn't do anything to help him out. The homer was Choo's only hit of the game. He is batting .255/.364/.396 with five longballs and 21 RBI in 177 plate appearances.

Eric Hosmer was ejected from Saturday's game against the Indians for arguing a check swing.

Hosmer struck out on a check swing with the bases loaded in the first inning and gave home plate umpire Bill Welke a piece of his mind. Manager Ned Yost was also tossed after coming to Hosmer's defense. The ejection was the second of Hosmer's career. Cheslor Cuthbert is now in at first base.
