Brewers acquired OF Domingo Santana, OF Brett Phillips, LHP Josh Hader, RHP Adrian Houser and international bonus slot #76 from the Astros for OF Carlos Gomez and RHP Mike Fiers.
The 22-year-old outfielder has seen limited action with the big league club this season, but has mashed to the tune of .320/.426/.582 with 16 homers and 59 RBI in 75 games at Triple-A Fresno. With little left to prove in the minor leagues, he could immediately get an opportunity to play everyday in Milwaukee.
Brewers acquired OF Brett Phillips, OF Domingo Santana, LHP Josh Hader, RHP Adrian Houser and international bonus slot #76 from the Astros for OF Carlos Gomez and RHP Mike Fiers.
It's a terrific haul of prospects for the Brewers, while also an incredibly helpful move for the Astros toward their playoff aspirations. Phillips, a 21-year-old outfielder, is hitting .320/.377/.548 with 16 homers, 71 RBI and 15 stolen bases between High-A Lancaster and Double-A Corpus Christi this season.
Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said Thursday that Jose Valdez will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
It will be the first time in the big leagues for the right-hander. The 25-year-old owns a 3.83 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 36/28 K/BB ratio over 44 2/3 innings at Toledo. He'll work in middle relief for the Tigers.
Dodgers transferred RHP Chris Hatcher to the 60-day disabled list.
Nothing has changed physically for Hatcher, who is currently on a minor league rehab assignment with High-A Ranco Cucamonga. This was merely done as a procedural move to create a spot on the team's 40-man roster for one of the team's many new additions.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Astros have acquired Mike Fiers along with Carlos Gomez from the Brewers in exchange for prospects.
Fiers will certainly help to bolster the Astros rotation, that now boasts Dallas Keuchel, Scott Kazmir and Lance McCullers at the top. The 30-year-old owns a 3.89 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 121/43 K/BB ratio over 118 innings on the season.
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Astros have acquired Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers from the Brewers.
The Brewers will net several prospects in the deal. Gomez was nearly traded to the Mets on Wednesday before the deal broke down over financial issues, and it appears that their loss is the Astros gain. It's a very strong move for the Astros and should put them as the favorites to capture the American League West.
Dodgers designated 1B Michael Morse for assignment.
Morse was acquired on Thursday as part of the massive 13-player, three-team trade with the Marlins and Braves, but it's clear that he was just a salary dump. The 33-year-old is unlikely to attract much interest on waivers.
Pirates acquired RHP Joakim Soria from the Tigers for SS JaCoby Jones.
While it's a major hit to the fantasy value for the veteran right-hander, he will bolster an already elite Pirates bullpen that boasts Tony Watson and Jared Hughes in front of closer Mark Melancon.
