Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt says his running back usage will be game-plan specific.

Sep 4 - 4:12 PM

Third-round pick Jeremiah Poutasi has won the Titans' starting right tackle job.

The 66th pick in May's draft, Poutasi flashed dominant run-blocking potential in August, though he graded out negatively across the board in Pro Football Focus' ratings for lacking consistency. From left to right, the Titans' Week 1 line projects as LT Taylor Lewan, LG Byron Bell, C Brian Schwenke, RG Chance Warmack, and RT Poutasi. It has a chance to be average or better.
Sep 4 - 4:08 PM

Cardinals acquired QB Matt Barkley from the Eagles in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick.

The "condition" is Philadelphia gets a seventh-round pick if Barkley is on Arizona's roster for six games this year. The Cardinals' interest in Barkley has been rumored since he came out of USC, but Arizona brass didn't deem Barkley worthy of a day-two draft pick at that time. He went 98th overall to Philadelphia in 2013 and has since disappointed in preseason games. Barkley was probably going to get cut by the Eagles, perhaps in favor of Tim Tebow. In Arizona, weak-armed and barely-mobile Barkley will likely open the season on the third string behind Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton. The Barkley trade bodes poorly for Logan Thomas' chances of making the Cardinals' 53.
Sep 4 - 3:56 PM

Cowboys waived RB Gus Johnson.

The Houston Chronicle reports the Cowboys would like to stash Johnson on the practice squad. An undrafted rookie out of small-school Stephen F. Austin, Johnson rushed 37 times for 139 yards (3.75 YPC) and two touchdowns this preseason. Johnson isn't a flashy runner. He'll be a two-down grinder if he ever cracks a 53-man roster.
Sep 4 - 3:54 PM

FOX's Jay Glazer reports the Cardinals are "working on" a trade for Eagles No. 3 QB Matt Barkley.

It's a nod to Carson Palmer's fragility, and shows a (deserved) lack of faith in backup Drew Stanton. Of course, Barkley would hardly upgrade on Stanton. If he's desert bound, it would almost certainly be for a sixth- or seventh-round pick. Barkley's arrival would spell the end of Logan Thomas' roster spot. His departure from Philly could also mean a place on the 53-man roster for Tim Tebow.
Sep 4 - 3:51 PM

The Raiders have "received interest" regarding the trade availability for WR Seth Roberts.

Roberts has been a preseason standout, piling up 15 receptions for 243 yards and a touchdown in exhibition games. He went 7-110-1 in Thursday night's preseason finale. 24 years old, Roberts stands 6-foot-2, 196 and went undrafted out of West Alabama in 2014. Roberts ran a 4.44 forty at his Pro Day.
Sep 4 - 3:43 PM

Titans waived FB Zach Boren, CB Ri'Shard Anderson, DB Khalid Wooten, DB Jemea Thomas, DL Isaako Aaitui, WR Josh Stewart and LB Kaelin Burnett.

There's nary a notable name on the list. The back end of the Titans' roster boasts very little upside.
Sep 4 - 3:40 PM

Browns coach Mike Pettine emphasized Friday that Terrance West must be more consistent.

Pettine said he knows West has the ability to be a productive NFL back, but that his "ups and downs" are holding him back. Pettine credited Isaiah Crowell's "whole body of work" when explaining why he would be the starter. West's roster spot is secure, but he'll be the No. 3 back on the totem pole if Duke Johnson (concussion) gets cleared.
