ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley suggested the team is high on second-year UDFA NT Michael Pierce.

Pierce played 375 snaps as a rookie out of Samford and dominated in run support, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 13 defensive tackle against the run despite playing fewer snaps than every other player ahead of him. Pierce's strong rookie year might make it easier if Baltimore can't re-sign NT Brandon Williams in free agency. Williams is expected to command top dollar.

Coach Bill O'Brien will call the Texans' offensive plays in 2017.

Houston fired OC George Godsey on Tuesday, and the team has no plans to hire a new offensive coordinator. O'Brien called the plays most of this past season anyway, so it's not much of a shakeup on offense.

Bears hired ex-49ers OC Curtis Modkins as RBs coach.

Modkins served one season as the 49ers' OC but was shipped out along with the rest of ex-coach Chip Kelly's staff. Kelly called the plays for the Niners. Modkins has mostly been an RBs coach for the past 15 years. He replaces Stan Drayton in Chicago after Drayton left for the University of Texas.

Titans DC Dick LeBeau raved about 2016 fifth-round CB LeShaun Sims.

"He is one of our promising young players," LeBeau said. "I think he has a bright future. He has good size, and size and speed is a good combination for a corner. He’s really worked hard, he has a good work ethic." Sims played just six defensive snaps Weeks 1-11, but was in on 230 plays from Week 12 on after Tennessee released CB Perrish Cox. At 6'/203, Sims tested well at last year's Combine and has a chance to open next season with a prominent role.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the 49ers will have Eliot Wolf, Brian Gutekunst, and George Paton back for second interviews regarding their general-manager vacancy.

Wolf and Gutenkunst are Packers executives, while Paton is with the Vikings. Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan is fully expected to get the head-coach job and will help pick the team's new GM when he meets with the 49ers after the NFC Championship game. Wolf and Gutekunst are considered the favorites.

Texans DC Romeo Crennel is expected to remain with the team as assistant head coach.

LBs coach Mike Vrabel is being promoted to defensive coordinator, but Crennel, whose contract expires next week, is expected to stay on staff. That way the Texans don't lose any important coaches, and Vrabel gets a promotion out of it to keep him away from teams still searching for defensive play-callers. Crennel will turn 70 later this year (in June).

MMQB's Albert Breer reports the Texans are promoting LBs coach Mike Vrabel to defensive coordinator.

Current DC Romeo Crennel's contract is expiring, but he's expected to return as the assistant head coach, according to Breer. Houston didn't want to lose either coach, and Vrabel had been linked to the 49ers' defensive-coordinator opening once Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan accepts the head-coaching job. Vrabel's star has been getting brighter the past couple years. He was connected to the Rams' head-coaching job last week but never formally interviewed for it.

Coach Pete Carroll said he had a "big meeting" with Richard Sherman after the season and discussed his numerous outbursts.

"Probably the biggest regret is that we showed some bad expressions and stuff on the sidelines," Carroll said. "I had a big meeting with Richard going out, and he has some regrets about this season. It was a difficult year for him. The media thing was a big deal and all that. He made it through it. It was hard." Sherman went after DC Kris Richard on the sideline in October, and then called out OC Darrell Bevell in-game and post-game in Week 15. He also had a verbal exchange with a reporter late in the season. Sherman's antics have grown tired, but the Seahawks seem willing to put up with him for at least another year. He turns 29 in March.
