ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the 49ers will offer their head-coaching job to Kyle Shanahan at the conclusion of the Falcons' season.

The 49ers can't officially hire Shanahan until the conclusion of the Falcons' playoff run, but it appears there's already a wink/nod agreement. It's why Seahawks executive Trent Kirchner "withdrew" from the general manager search on Tuesday. Kirchner was believed to want to pair up with Seahawks assistant Tom Cable. Successfully coordinating offenses since 2008 in Houston, Shanahan has earned the chance to lead a team.

Bills hired ex-Rams OC Rob Boras as TEs coach.

This speaks to the "quality" of Jeff Fisher's offensive — literally and figuratively — staff during his time as head coach in St. Louis/Los Angeles. Aside from his two-year sabbatical coordinating the Rams' offense, Boras has been an NFL TEs coach since 2004.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports it's "clear" Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan is the favorite for the 49ers' head-coaching vacancy.

It appears Seahawks assistant coach Tom Cable could be pulling his name from the running, presumably because he believes he doesn't have a legitimate chance to replace Chip Kelly. Shanahan has done an all-world job with the Falcons' offense this season, and had success wherever he's been, including Cleveland.

Packers signed CB Bene Benwikere to the practice squad.

Benwikere hasn't appeared in a regular season game since getting cut by the Panthers in October. He was recently let go from the Dolphins' practice squad. Benwikere will likely sign a reserve/future contract adding him to the offseason roster once the Packers' playoff run is through.

Seahawks executive Trent Kirchner has withdrawn from the 49ers' general manager search.

Kirchner's personnel partner Scott Fitterer is apparently still under consideration. Often, when a candidate publicly withdraws, it means the team has zeroed in on someone else, but that can't be assumed to be the case with the dysfunctional 49ers.

Speaking at his introductory presser, new Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said the team would speak to Gus Bradley about the defensive coordinator position again on Tuesday.

Los Angeles is Bradley's best bet for a job right now, but there's been speculation he's waiting to see if Tom Cable gets the 49ers' job. Bradley coached alongside Cable in Seattle. San Diego, with its Joey Bosa-led defense, would be the much better career choice.

The Chargers will retain Ken Whisenhunt as offensive coordinator.

This was the expectation even before Anthony Lynn, himself an offensive mind, was hired. Whisenhunt coordinated Philip Rivers in 2013, earning himself a second chance as a head coach with the Titans. He failed spectacularly, and was back with the Bolts in 2016. Whisenhunt's 2016 unit was effective, but plagued by the typical inconsistency and chaos that's been a mainstay for the Chargers. Lynn's presence should be a huge plus for Melvin Gordon.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports impending free agent Danny Woodhead (torn ACL) is "six weeks" ahead of schedule in his recovery.

Reporter Michael Gehlken posted a video of Woodhead running with great velocity and even doing some cutting. Woodhead is four months removed from going down. He should still have at least 2-3 months of intensive rehab remaining, but it appears he could be close to 100 percent for training camp. One week shy of his 32nd birthday, Woodhead is one of the league's best pass-catching backs, but missed the majority of two of the past three seasons with injury.
