Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) will play another rehab game with Double-A Trenton on Wednesday.

And then he should be activated on Thursday. A-Rod went 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI in his rehab debut Tuesday at the Double-A level. He's been on the disabled list since May 4 with a hamstring strain.

Steven Matz worked eight scoreless innings Wednesday in the Mets' 2-0 defeat of the Nationals.

Matz carved his way through the Bryce Harper-less lineup in Washington, yielding just four hits and a walk while striking out seven. He did actually face Harper in a pinch-hit situation in the bottom of the eighth and got him to ground out. Matz, 24, boasts a 7-1 record, 2.36 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 50/9 K/BB ratio in 49 2/3 innings (eight starts) this season. He'll look to stay ace-like next time out against the White Sox.

Nick Ahmed (head) is in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup on Wednesday against the Pirates.

Ahmed took a pitch off his chin on Tuesday night but came away with nothing more than some minor cuts. He is batting leadoff Wednesday versus lefty Jeff Locke.

Orioles RHP prospect Matthew Grimes scattered five hits over seven scoreless frames Tuesday in a win for High-A Frederick.

The 24-year-old is 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA over his last three starts. He owns the Carolina League's second-lowest ERA at 1.39 and is tied for the league lead with six wins. As encouraging as those numbers sound, they don't tell the whole story. Opponents have hit .255 against Grimes and his strikeout rate isn't what you'd expect from a top of the rotation arm (5.57 K/9). With a fastball that tops out in the low 90s, Grimes will really need to locate his pitches if he wants to make it to the next level.
May 25 - 3:45 PM

Troy Tulowitzki (quad) is out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup Wednesday against the Yankees.

Tulo made an early exit from Tuesday's game after experiencing tightness in his right quad. Ryan Goins will start at shortstop and bat eighth versus Ivan Nova. Devon Travis will make his season debut at second.
May 25 - 3:43 PM

Indians 1B prospect Nellie Rodriguez belted his 10th home run of the year Tuesday in a win for Double-A Akron.

Rodriguez also walked twice as the RubberDucks cruised to an 8-3 victory over Altoona. The 21-year-old has been a force of nature this year with 36 RBI and a .512 slugging percentage. Of course, Rodriguez's huge power numbers have come at the expense of his batting average. He's hitting only .259 while leading the league with 63 strikeouts.

Rays designated 1B/OF Jake Goebbert for assignment.

The move clears a 40-man roster spot for Ryan Garton, who will join the Rays' bullpen on Wednesday night. Goebbert was hitting .163/.258/.221 at Triple-A Durham.

Maikel Franco was pulled from Wednesday's game against the Tigers with an apparent foot injury.

Franco appeared to jam something while sliding into second base in the top of the seventh inning. He limped off the field. Look for an update shortly.
