Jay Cutler completed 12-of-20 passes for 157 yards and an interception in the Bears' third preseason game Friday night.
It isn't a surprise that Cutler scuffled against Seattle's first-team defense, particularly on the road. Cutler was ruled on the field to have thrown a second-quarter touchdown to Martellus Bennett, but Marty B's TD was overturned on replay. Cutler made his first bad decision of the preseason on an ensuing play, where he was picked by Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane on a forced throw in scoring position. Cutler's passing stats through three preseason games stand at 28-of-42 for 317 yards, two touchdowns and the one pick.
Patriots WR Brandon LaFell caught 2-of-5 targets for 14 yards against the Panthers Friday night.
LaFell slipped on one of his targets, and had another bounce off his hands. On the bright side, LaFell saw extensive work with the first-team offense, and Tom Brady seems to feel comfortable targeting him. LaFell is unlikely to be a fantasy contributor this season, but he could be a good real-football player for the Patriots. LaFell has six catches for 59 yards this preseason.
Greg Salas secured 2-of-2 targets for 22 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason game.
Salas now has four catches for 53 yards and a score through three preseason games. Considering how poorly Stephen Hill has shown this summer, Salas could begin the year as the Jets' No. 4 receiver.
Rod Streater had one catch for 16 yards in Friday's preseason game against the Packers.
Julian Edelman caught all eight of his targets for 99 yards in the Patriots' third preseason game.
With Aaron Dobson (foot) and Rob Gronkowski (knee) both out, Edelman looked like the player that hauled in 105 passes in 2013. A healthy Gronkowski should siphon targets away from Edelman, but it is clear he is the No. 1 wideout in New England. He could easily top 80 catches this season. Edelman has 10 catches for 118 yards this preseason.
Denarius Moore caught two passes for 46 yards in Friday's preseason game against the Packers.
Moore was the clear-cut No. 3 receiver, behind starters James Jones and Rod Streater. It's not a role that's going to yield box-score production given the Raiders' quarterback situation. Through three preseason games, Moore has six catches for 82 yards and no scores.
Mario Manningham caught one pass for five yards in Friday's preseason game.
Manningham's second-quarter grab was his lone target of the night. The 2012 Super Bowl hero has just two catches for 22 yards through four preseason games. He appears to be on the outside looking in of the 53-man roster.
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said following Friday night's preseason game that Chad Henne will start Week 1 against the Eagles.
The Jaguars are sticking to their plan of not rushing Blake Bortles despite him clearly outplaying Henne in the preseason. Henne has completed 25-of-38 passes (65.7 percent) for 231 yards with one touchdown and two fumbles through three games. He'll be on a short leash and need to be an effective game manager to keep the job. Bortles is going to push for starts sooner than later.
