Miles Mikolas gave up five runs -- four earned -- over 5 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Angels.

Mikolas has been roughed up in all three of his major league starts and could be headed to the bullpen (or back to Triple-A Round Rock) after the All-Star break. The right-hander yielded nine hits Saturday and walked one batter, watching his ERA climb to 10.05.
Jul 12 - 10:40 PM

Rick Porcello fired seven innings of one-run ball Saturday in the Tigers' 5-1 defeat of the Royals.

It was a terrific bounceback pefromance from Porcello, who was shelled for seven runs on 11 hits last Sunday by the Rays. Porcello scattered six hits Saturday in Kansas City and struck out three. He'll wrap up the first half with a 12-5 record, 3.39 ERA, and 1.18 WHIP. The right-hander is tied for the American League lead in wins.
Jul 12 - 10:26 PM

James Shields held the Tigers to two runs over seven innings but took his fifth loss on Saturday.

Shields struck out eight and walked none in the sharp outing, but Kansas City's offense managed just one run of support. The right-hander heads into the All-Star break with a 9-5 record, 3.65 ERA, and 1.27 WHIP. He'll hope to be even better in the second half of 2014.
Jul 12 - 10:23 PM

Collin Cowgill left Saturday's game against the Rangers after being hit by a pitch in the nose.

Cowgill looked to be fine other than a gash on his nose. Efren Navarro replaced him in left field.
Jul 12 - 10:11 PM

Fernando Rodney has been added to the American League All-Star roster.

Rodney is replacing Rays ace David Price, who opted out because he will be starting Sunday versus the Blue Jays. Rodney leads the American League with 27 saves and holds a 1.98 ERA on the season.
Jul 12 - 8:44 PM

Alberto Callaspo has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of his right hamstring.

Callaspo was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday evening and could very well be out longer than 15 days. Andy Parrino was called up in a corresponding move to provide the A's with infield depth. Eric Sogard and Nick Punto will be Oakland's primary second basemen.
Jul 12 - 8:29 PM

Twins released LHP Scott Diamond.

Diamond had a 6.52 ERA, a 1.638 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts in 80 innings for Triple-A Rochester. The 27-year-old southpaw will look to sign with a new team.
Jul 12 - 8:13 PM

Kevin Correia tossed six innings of one-run ball Saturday in the Twins' 9-3 win over the Rockies.

Correia flirted with danger, yielding seven hits and a walk while striking out just one batter, but he operated well in situations that required damage control to earn a victory in his final start of the season's first half. He's 5-11 with a 4.61 ERA and 1.42 WHIP.
