Padres purchased the contract of RHP Kyle Lloyd from Triple-A El Paso.

Lloyd will make his major league debut as the Padres' starting pitcher Tuesday night against the Mets. The 26-year-old right-hander threw a no-hitter earlier this season at Double-A San Antonio, but there are better fantasy streaming options out there.

Padres optioned RHP Jose Ruiz to High-A Lake Elsinore.

The former catcher threw a scoreless inning in his major league debut Monday against the Mets, but the Padres needed to clear a roster spot for Kyle Lloyd, who will start on Tuesday night.

Willson Contreras went 3-for-4 with a home run and four total RBI in the Cubs' 7-2 defeat of the White Sox on Tuesday.

Contreras belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. The 25-year-old catcher has been in a good offensive groove since the middle of May and now boasts a .273/.336/.498 batting line with 16 home runs and 56 RBI over 89 games this season.
Jul 25 - 6:21 PM

John Lackey held the White Sox to two runs over five innings Tuesday for his seventh win of the season.

Lackey walked two batters and plunked four, but he operated well in situations that required damage control, inducing eight groundouts. The veteran right-hander is 7-9 on the season with a 4.97 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 92/34 K/BB ratio in 108 2/3 innings. Up next is a road start against the Brewers.
Jul 25 - 6:17 PM

Rafael Devers will start at third base and bat ninth Tuesday in his MLB debut.

Devers got promoted to the majors on Monday afternoon but did not start against Mariners left-hander James Paxton. He'll get his turn Tuesday with Seattle throwing right-hander Felix Hernandez. The ultra-talented 20-year-old was slashing .311/.377/.578 with 20 home runs and 60 RBI in 86 games this season between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket.
Jul 25 - 6:15 PM

Xander Bogaerts (illness) is back in the Red Sox lineup Tuesday night against the Mariners.

Bogaerts was a late scratch Monday after coming down with an illness, but he will start at shortstop and hit sixth Tuesday versus Seattle right-hander Felix Hernandez.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Brewers are in talks with the White Sox about reliever Anthony Swarzak.

Swarzak earned the first save of his career on Monday against the Cubs and boasts a 2.23 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 52/13 K/BB ratio in 48 1/3 innings this season. The 31-year-old right-hander is scheduled to become a free agent this winter, so he'd likely be a rental property for Milwaukee.
Jul 25 - 6:09 PM

Carlos Rodon struck out 11 batters over four innings Tuesday in a loss to the Cubs.

It was one of the weirdest pitching performances of the year. Rodon served up a three-run homer to Willson Contreras in the first inning and an RBI double to Ben Zobrist in the second inning, but he got 11 of his 12 outs via the strikeout in the 98-pitch outing. Rodon walked three and surrendered seven total hits. He stands 1-4 with a 6.29 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, and 31/18 K/BB ratio in 24 1/3 innings (five starts) this year.
