Orioles recalled LHP T.J. McFarland from Triple-A Norfolk.
McFarland has given up six runs -- two earned -- over five relief appearances with the O's this season. He'll provide the bullpen with some length.
Orioles optioned RHP Oliver Drake to Triple-A Norfolk.
Drake allowed three runs over 7 2/3 relief innings with the big club. He's replaced in the bullpen by T.J. McFarland.
Dodgers optioned LHP Ian Thomas to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Thomas allowed four runs over three relief appearances in an appearance during Tuesday's doubleheader. The Dodgers plan to stretch him out as a starter at Oklahoma City.
Jorge Soler (ankle) has flown back to Chicago to undergo more tests.
Soler underwent an MRI on Tuesday but apparently the Cubs want to put him through additional testing. Ad update on his condition is expected later Wednesday. It's possible he'll require a trip to the disabled list for his ankle injury.
Angels pitching prospect Nate Smith tossed six scoreless innings Tuesday for Double-A Arkansas.
It wasn't the prettiest outing. Smith allowed 11 baserunners (seven hits, four walks) but he stranded them all, finishing the night with six strikeouts. The workhorse left-hander leads the Texas League in both strikeouts (58) and innings pitched (63). Tuesday was his first scoreless outing since April.
Hector Gomez left Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals with an apparent head injury.
It was a scary looking situation, as Gomez hit a side wall at full speed while chasing a pop-up and launched himself into the stands head-first. He eventually got to his feet and walked off on his own, but it seems likely that the Brewers will put him through possible concussion tests.
Denard Span (knee) is back in the Nationals' lineup Wednesday.
Span hadn't played since leaving Sunday's game with renewed discomfort in his right knee, but he's feeling ready to give it a go. The outfielder is batting .314/.356/.504 for the Nats this season.
Christian Yelich is absent from the Marlins' lineup Wednesday.
It appears to just be a day of rest. Ichiro Suzuki is handling left field in Yelich's absence.
