Brody Chernof, the son of Indians' general manager Mike Chernof, told Tom Hamilton during Sunday's broadcast that his father is trying to lock up Francisco Lindor for seven years.

Chernof was a guest in the booth and was asked by the veteran announcer if the elder Chernof was working on any deals at the moment. The Indians just finalized a contract extension with Jose Ramirez, and locking up Lindor would certainly be high on their list of priorities.

Jefry Marte went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI as the Angels fell to the Royals in Cactus League play on Sunday.

Marte's bases-clearing double off Jason Hammel capped off a six-run fifth inning but wouldn't be enough to lead the Angels to victory. Marte has done a nice job at the dish this spring, hitting .300 with three homers and 13 RBI. He'll open the season in a reserve role for the Halos.

J.C. Ramirez struggled in Sunday's Cactus League start against the Royals, surrendering five runs on eight hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work.

Pitching to perhaps secure a spot in the club's opening day rotation, Ramirez turned in perhaps his worst start of the spring. He was tagged for a pair of homers in the contest, with Paulo Orlando and Brandon Moss each leaving the yard during a four-run fourth inning. He now sports a 5.91 ERA in Cactus League competition.

Athletics optioned C Bruce Maxwell to Triple-A Nashville.

The 26-year-old went out on a high note, blasting his first two homers of the Cactus League season on Sunday prior to his demotion. He finishes the spring hitting .282 with seven RBI. He'll assuredly get an opportunity with the A's during the 2017 season.

Brandon Moss finished 3-for-3 with a two-run homer in the Royals' 8-7 Cactus League win over the Angels on Sunday.

Moss took J.C. Ramirez yard in the fourth inning and also added two singles. He is projected to serve as the Royals' primary designated hitter in 2017 after signing a two-year, $12 million free agent contract in late January. The veteran slugger has some deep-league fantasy appeal.

Nolan Arenado smashed a two-run homer in the top of the first inning Sunday as the Rockies beat the Padres 4-1 in the Cactus League.

Arenado mostly struggled at the plate for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, but he doubled in his first game back with the Rockies on Friday and the star third baseman took Padres starter Jarred Cosart deep on Sunday. Arenado, 25, should be a top-seven pick in most standard fantasy leagues leading into the 2017 regular season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after Sunday's Cactus League game that Scott Kazmir (hip) will not open the season in the starting rotation.

Kazmir struggled again in Sunday's start against the Rangers and continues to show severely diminished fastball velocity. The veteran southpaw admitted after the start that he's still bothered by his hip issue and doesn't feel like he has his lower half. Expect him to begin the season on the disabled list.

Jabari Blash finished 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBI in the Padres' 9-4 win over a Cubs split-squad on Sunday.

Blash singled and scored in the first inning, led off the third inning with a ground-rule double, and then slugged a grand slam in the top of the fourth off Cubs prospect Jonathan Martinez. Blash boasts a 1.056 OPS with six home runs and 17 RBI in 23 games this spring. He's played his way into a share of the left field job in San Diego.
