Cardinals placed RHP Alex Reyes on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

Reyes underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in mid-February and will miss the entire 2017 season. The 22-year-old top pitching prospect will aim for a big breakout in 2018.

Cardinals recalled RHP Sam Tuivailala from Triple-A Memphis.

Tuivailala was optioned out of major league camp last week, but he's needed for the Opening Day roster now with Trevor Rosenthal still battling a right lat strain. Tuivailala, 24, owns a rough 5.47 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in 28 career appearances at the major league level. He'll be a low-leverage guy out of the bullpen.

Cardinals placed RHP Trevor Rosenthal on the 10-day disabled list with a right lat strain.

This is not a new injury for Rosenthal, but he hadn't been bothered by it for the last few weeks. Apparently there has been a setback. Sam Tuivailala has been recalled from the Triple-A roster and will open the 2017 season in the Cardinals' bullpen.

Trevor Cahill will start the Padres' third regular-season game.

Luis Perdomo will start the fifth game and Jarred Cosart will open the season in the bullpen. Cahill posted a 3.26 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts over 19 1/3 innings this spring in Cactus League play and might carry some value in deeper mixed leagues. At the very least, he should have streaming appeal.

Lucas Duda was held out of action Thursday in Mets camp because of hamstring tightness.

Mets manager Terry Collins said the injury will have no effect on Duda's availability for Opening Day. The 31-year-old is set to start at first base.

Shawn Kelley will open the year as a setup man.

Kelley earned seven saves last season before the Nationals acquired Mark Melancon and he carried some momentum for the closer job into spring training this year, but the right-hander still has some durability concerns as a guy who's needed two Tommy John surgeries.
Mar 30 - 1:23 PM

Koda Glover will open the 2017 season in a setup role.

Glover looked to be the favorite for the Nationals' closer job a couple weeks ago, but manager Dusty Baker named Blake Treinen to the post on Thursday afternoon. Glover is a promising young reliever but seems doubtful to carry value in non-holds leagues. Shawn Kelley will also open the year in a setup role.

Padres purchased the contract of RHP Craig Stammen from Triple-A El Paso.

Stammen earned a spot in the Padres' bullpen by posting a 0.77 ERA and 12 strikeouts over 11 2/3 innings in Cactus League play. He'll probably act as a long reliever for the Friars.
