Ravens released or waived C/G A.Q. Shipley, OG Ryan Jensen, RB Fitz Toussaint, and QB Keith Wenning.

Shipley made nine starts, one at center and eight at left guard, last season. He was competing for a backup job. Jensen was given a shot to play right tackle in the spring, but it didn't pan out. Wenning is a practice squad candidate.

Redskins released RB Lache Seastrunk, RB Chris Thompson and RB Evan Royster.

All three lost out to rookie Silas Redd for the No. 3 running back job in Washington. Seastrunk still has practice squad eligibility, and will likely be stashed there if he clears waivers. Thompson has an intriguing enough skill set that he might get a look if healthy.

Giants released DL Israel Idonije, TE Kellen Davis, CB Bennett Jackson, LB Dan Fox and DT Kelcy Quarles.

Idonije, 33, was on the roster for less than a month after getting the boot from Chicago earlier this summer. He's at or near the end of the line. Kellen Davis started the Giants' dress rehearsal, but offered next to nothing in the passing game. Jackson is dealing with an ankle injury. He is a candidate for the practice squad.

Texans released DL Ricardo Mathews.

Mathews was a poor fit as an undersized nose tackle. He couldn't make the cut behind Jerrell Powe and rookie Louis Nix.
Aug 30 - 8:49 AM

Browns released RB Dion Lewis.

Lewis was thought to be the "favorite" for the Browns' No. 3 running back job just a week ago, but Isaiah Crowell's big night in the team's final preseason game may have changed those plans. Lewis has a decent shot to latch on somewhere else as a change of pace option.
Aug 30 - 8:49 AM

Texans waived CB Brandon Harris.

The 60th overall pick in the 2011 draft, Harris couldn't find a home as a slot corner or outside cover man in three seasons with the Texans. Still only 24 years old, Harris is a good bet to resurface elsewhere in fairly short order.

Bills signed QB Kyle Orton to a one-year contract.

Orton, 31, made one start for the Cowboys last season in an NFC East win-or-go-home tilt with the Eagles. He scattered check down after check down amongst 46 pass attempts, completing 30 for 358 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Orton was on the verge of retirement before the Bills lured him back into the league, but it's fair to wonder if he eventually becomes a better option than E.J. Manuel. For now, Orton will push Jeff Tuel for the backup job.

The Cardinals are not expected to sign free agent OLB James Harrison.

Harrison knows coach Bruce Arians from Pittsburgh and the Cardinals need linebacker help, so it's surprising the sides couldn't make this work. At age 36 now, it's conceivable that Harrison is already at the end of the line.
