Marlins designated LHP Andrew McKirahan for assignment.

The Rule 5 pick will have to clear waivers before being offered back to the Cubs. McKirahan could get claimed, as it was reported last week that a few teams were interested him. The southpaw held a 3.00 ERA with six strikeouts over nine innings this spring.

Alex Gordon went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored in Monday's slugfest with the Rangers.

Gordon ripped a line drive home run in the sixth inning against Alex Claudio, his first round-tripper of the spring. The two-time All-Star needed the outing, as he entered hitting just .125 (3-for-24). Gordon had wrist surgery in January, but will be ready to go on Opening Day.

Leonys Martin finished 3-for-3 with an RBI single and a solo home run in Monday's Cactus League game with the Royals.

Martin hit a solo home run to center field in the third inning (his third of the spring), then added an RBI single in the fourth. The effort brought his spring average up to .306 (15-for-49). Martin should certainly rack up the steals this season, and has an outside shot at reaching double-digits in home runs.

Diamondbacks re-assigned RHP Yoan Lopez to minor league camp.

The Cuban defector never had a chance to earn an Opening Day roster spot, but the D'Backs kept him around as long as possible to get a good look at him. The 22-year-old allowed 12 runs in 13 2/3 innings this spring and is likely to begin the season in the lower minors.

Chris Denorfia (hamstring) is expected to play in a minor league game by the middle of the week.

Denorfia, who has been nursing a left hamstring strain for two weeks, took batting practice Monday. The outfielder's status for Opening Day is up in the air. "I don't like to speculate on things like that," Denorfia said. "When you're rehabbing, anything can happen. As long as everything progresses the way it should, [I should be ready] sometime around that time. The goal is to be ready by then."

Starlin Castro went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Monday's 8-5 victory over the Giants.

Castro has hit in five consecutive Cactus League games dating back to March 19. He had been slowed recently by minor groin tightness, but he should be ready for the start of the regular season. Castro had arguably his best offensive season last year, batting .292 with 14 home runs.
Mar 30 - 7:25 PM

Tim Hudson wasn't very sharp on Monday, serving up four runs on 10 hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings against the Cubs.

All told, it could have been much worse. The Cubs scored once in each of the first four innings. Hudson has mostly pitched well this spring and looks regular season-ready in what may be the 39-year-old's final season. He compiled a 3.57 ERA and a 120/34 K/BB ratio in 189 1/3 innings for the Giants last season.
Mar 30 - 7:22 PM

Coco Crisp (elbow) will not play the field during an appearance in a minor league game Tuesday.

The A's are protecting Crisp's elbow, so they'll only have him take some at-bats so he doesn't have to do any throwing. The club is still hoping to have him ready for Opening Day, but they're playing Crisp in minor league contests just in case they have to make a backdated disabled list move.
