Manny Pina slugged a two-run homer and scored two runs against the Reds on Friday.

Pina was told Wednesday that he made the Opening Day roster, but the push continues. The 29-year-old has hit four homers in his last five games and leads the Brewers with 13 RBI this spring while hitting .419 (18-for-43) over 17 games. With Andrew Susac (neck, back) expected to begin the year on the disabled list, Pina and Jett Bandy will share catching duties for Milwaukee. While Pina has been a nice story this spring, we wouldn’t recommend chasing after him in fantasy leagues.

Padres manager Andy Green said Friday that Luis Sardinas is now competing for a utility role on the club's Opening Day roster.

He entered spring training as the likely starting shortstop, but has been surpassed by veteran Erick Aybar. He entered Friday's game as a defensive replacement in the outfield where he'll continue to flash his versatility over the final week-plus of spring play.

Erick Aybar is expected to be named as the Padres' starting shortstop.

Padres' manager Andy Green said Friday that his primary competition for the position, Luis Sardinas, is now attempting to make the club in a utility role. He also heaped praise on Aybar, ""Erick has been outstanding, in my opinion.. He’s got some leadership qualities that we don’t necessarily have in the position-player corps, nice attributes to add to the team." Despite his poor 2016 campaign this will give Aybar fantasy value in NL-only formats and deep mixed leagues.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Josh Ravin aggravated his right groin strain and will be sidelined for the next several weeks.

Ravin had hoped to return to the mound on Sunday. He had been a candidate to win one of the final spots in the club's Opening Day bullpen, but instead he'll now open the year on the 10-day disabled list.

Angels reassigned RHP Alex Meyer, OF Ryan LaMarre, INF Nolan Fontana and C Francisco Arcia to minor league camp.

Meyer, a former top prospect, was competing for a spot in the Halo's Opening Day rotation. The 27-year-old hurler registered a 7.20 ERA and 2.20 WHIP across 10 innings in Cactus League competition. He'll open the season as rotation depth at Triple-A Salt Lake.

Brandon Belt socked a three-run homer off Jon Gray in a 6-5 win over the Rockies in Cactus League action on Friday.

It was his third homer of the spring. The 28-year-old has never hit more than 18 homers in a season before and it’s tough to forecast a major improvement given where he plays half of his games, but his strong on-base ability still offers considerable value. He was fifth in the majors in walk percentage and ninth in on-base percentage last season.

Jeff Samardzija gave up two hits over four scoreless innings against the Rockies on Friday.

It was a big improvement from his most recent outings. Samardzjia was efficient, throwing 31 out of 47 pitches for strikes while striking out three and walking none. He got some extra work in the bullpen after leaving the game. The 32-year-old compiled a 3.81 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 32 starts during his first season with the Giants and should continue to be a useful fantasy starter in that environment.

Nolan Arenado delivered an RBI double in his return to the Rockies on Friday.

It was his first game back after playing for Team USA during the World Baseball Classic. He mostly struggled during the tournament, but there shouldn’t be any worries going into the season. With Coors Field on his side, he should be off the board by the middle of the first round in mixed fantasy leagues.
