An MRI of Tim Collins' left elbow has shown damage to his ulnar collateral ligament.

Collins will get a second opinion, but it appears that he's headed for Tommy John surgery. The diminutive left-hander was injured during his first Cactus League appearance on Wednesday. Collins is set to earn $1.475 million this season in his second year of arbitration eligibility.

Randal Grichuk (back) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Saturday.

Grichuk has dealt with some mild lower back soreness early on in camp, but he's fine. The young outfielder is likely to make the Cardinals' Opening Day roster as a potent bench bat.

Joey Votto (quad) will make his Cactus League debut on Saturday.

Votto was held back a bit as he returns from last season's quad/knee issue, but he's feeling good and now is ready to play in games. The 31-year-old first baseman will be in the No. 2 spot in the lineup Saturday versus the Royals. Votto stands a good chance to bounce back in 2015 if he can remain healthy.

Michael Saunders (knee) played catch for the second straight day Friday.

He's also hoping to take swings off a tee on Friday. "Everything [in knee] feels stable, strong and healthy," Saunders said. The outfielder underwent surgery a week ago to remove part of the meniscus in his left knee but could be ready to return as soon as mid-April. Saunders will be the Blue Jays' left field once he's recovered.

Kyle Blanks (Achilles) is scheduled to play in games by mid-to-late next week.

The Rangers have been taking things slowly with Blanks after his Achilles issues last season. He'll be limited to working at first base and designated hitter initially but eventually will see work in the outfield as long as his health cooperates. Blanks could see plenty of playing time this season in left field and at designated hitter if he can stay on the field.
Mar 6 - 10:05 AM

Michael Kirkman (shoulder) felt only normal soreness during a bullpen session Wednesday.

It's not clear when Kirkman will be ready for game action, but it appears he's nearly back on track after missing some time with shoulder soreness. He's in camp with the Rangers as a non-roster invitee.
Mar 6 - 10:02 AM

Mitch Moreland (ankle) is scheduled to play in games early next week after participated fully in Wednesday’s practice.

Moreland had season-ending ankle surgery last June but has progressed in his rehab without any setbacks. He'll be ready to roll come Opening Day.

Shin-Soo Choo was sent home on Thursday due to an upper respiratory infection and flu-like symptoms.

He should be fine in a day or two. Choo is also working his way back from elbow and ankle surgeries but is expected to be fine for Opening Day.
