Avisail Garcia (wrist) was scratched from the White Sox's lineup Thursday against the Rangers.

Aug 17 - 7:38 PM

Phillies designated RHP Pedro Beato for assignment.

Aug 17 - 7:36 PM

Jon Lester (lat) is headed to see Dr. Stephen Gryzlo.

This comes after Lester exited Thursday's start with lat tightness. The left-hander was blown up for nine runs in that start and didn't throw with his usual velocity. The Cubs aren't expected to update Lester's status until Friday at the earliest. Mike Montgomery, who logged 4 1/3 innings out of the bullpen on Thursday, is a candidate to replace Lester in the starting rotation should he land on the disabled list.
Aug 17 - 7:24 PM

Phillies purchased the contract of INF Pedro Florimon from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Pedro Beato was designated for assignment to make room for him. Florimon has spent all of 2017 in the minor leagues, hitting .265 with 10 homers, 33 RBI and four steals over 90 games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He'll give the Phillies some infield depth.
Aug 17 - 7:17 PM

Max Kepler is not in the Twins' lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Indians.

He went 1-for-3 with a single and a strikeout in the first game of Thursday's double dip. Robbie Grossman is in at right field and batting sixth against Indians left-hander Ryan Merritt.
Aug 17 - 7:02 PM

Odubel Herrera (hamstring) is not in the Phillies' lineup Thursday against the Giants.

There was some optimism that Herrera may return for Thursday night's series opener, but obviously that wasn't the case. He remains day-to-day with a lingering hamstring injury. Nick Williams will man center field and bat second against Giants right-hander Jeff Samardzija. Thursday will mark Herrera's third straight absence.
Aug 17 - 7:00 PM

Ender Inciarte homered twice and walked twice Thursday as the Braves beat the Rockies 10-4 at Coors Field.

From an OPS standpoint, Inciarte has been no more productive this year than the last two. However, he has 10 homers this year after hitting a total of 13 in 1,464 at-bats over his first three big-league seasons. That little power increase, along with the .300 average in an NL-high 500 at-bats, has made him awfully valuable for fantasy purposes, even if he's not quite as good of a basestealer as one would like (he's 15-for-20 this year).
Aug 17 - 6:54 PM

Lucas Sims recorded his first big-league victory after allowing two runs over five innings Thursday against the Rockies.

Sims walked three today, matching his total from his first three starts combined. Still, he kept it together at Coors Field, which was pretty impressive. He'll take a 1-3 record and a 5.24 ERA into his next start against the Mariners.
